Well Penny threw up immediately after eating the Embark twice, and Lion doesn't seem to like it. Looks like I will have to return the box and try a different kind. I think I will try the Force... From what I have read, it seems to be the best for picky dogs.

Mine went absolutely nuts for Force when I first tried it. Try starting slow with the next kind though...just like any food it can take some adjusting to. Don't write Embark off just yet either. I've read some dogs who turn their nose up at THK at first coming around & loving it! Mari, while she didn't show any obvious signs not processing it well, apparently it took her body a bit to adjust to totally process it because at first Marley would eat her poo! And he's never been a poo eater & isn't now...was just the way she processed (or didn't process) the food until she got use to it. Anyway, good luck! If you try Force I hope you have better luck.

I didn't give her much, just a tiny spoonful both times, so maybe the vomiting wasn't from the new food? This morning I mixed it in with her food and she refused to eat it.. That's really weird for Penny because she will eat ANYTHING. I will keep using the stuff I have already mixed up and decide once that is gone.

I bought a scaler, but I've been afraid to use it. I'm such a wimp. I keep thinking I'll hurt them or take off some of their enamel or something. I know, crazy. They both have some small bits on their teeth that could use scaling too. Mainly Roo. Their teeth are pretty good overall though. Maybe one day when I'm feeling brave I'll attempt using the scaler. You do have to have a steady hand...and make sure they don't squirm or jerk. It does get a bit stressful especially after doing 7! I haven't noticed any bad things from using the scaler though I'd love to get that tool Kristi posted about a while back that sort of "buffs" after scaling. I would be lying if I said I never slipped & got a small part of their gums but definitely nothing that tramatized them and nothing that was more than a teeny tiny scratch. Still made me feel bad because I know how much I hate having my teeth done at the dentist. LOL Then when I'm done scaling I brush with peroxide/water to make sure any "germs" are taken care of.... Never had an issue though & they always look nice & sparkley after. What I find hard is to get the very last molar on the top on each side! It's hard to stretch their lip back far enough. That's the tooth I have a hard time getting all the crap off of but usually I get most of it off...since that's the one that collects the most build up. Ick! I noticed even when on prey model it collected build up... Guess thats what I get for not actually brushing every day. LOL Though when it was only a couple chi's I did & Matilda's teeth were still disgusting so??? I can't imagine doing my 2 let alone 7! lol. Thanks for the enouragment and tips, Heather. I can get at Pip's back molars much easier than Roo's, his mouth is simply bigger, but his back teeth are perfect, nothing on them at all, it's mainly a tiny bit on his front teeth oddly. Roo's mouth is very tiny so, like you mentioned, you really have to stretch their mouth to get at those back teeth and she a little bit on those teeth and a tiny bit on her canines. I think I can do Pip's front teeth quite easily, he also holds still really well, but Roo can be a little bit squirmy. So do you just like scrape right at it? Yes, I know, stupid question as of course that's what you do... but I guess it just seems scary, like I could take off some enamel or something mainly because there is not a lot of tartar on them, just a tiny bit on a couple of Pip's front teeth so that's why I worry about scraping the actual enamel. I think I'll give it a go though, I did buy it afterall, I may as well try to actually use it. ;D I have been using Petzlife gel on his front teeth to try and remove it, but it's very slow going. It has removed some for certain, but just never seems to remove the remaining little yellow bits at the gumline on a few of his teeth.

Missy - neither of mine liked The Honest Kitchen at first. They both turned their noses up at it and then just sorta came around to it. I do mix it with Ziwi though. Good luck with trying Force.

I usually tip the scaler so I'm scraping with the side of the curved part & not the tip if that makes sense? You'll figure out what works best to get it though by playing with it a bit. It's perfect for getting the gumline though. I really didn't even think there were back BACK teeth until I stretched back their lips. So hard to see them...most of mine anyway. But yeah...since you have it may as well give it a try. Hmmm, I doubt it was THK that made her sick Missy though the way she's acting towards it now (aversion after making her sick) reminds me of Mari with beef. She ate it at first but after she vomited it up...she would NOT eat it. I did try for a long time to build her up to it & the outcome is always the same once she gets more than .3oz. But you could keep trying to mix & see if they come around. I guess I lucked out...mind just went crazy for it at first. Every single one of them!

How many molars are they supposed to have on the top and bottom? I don't think Pip and Roo have them all, but maybe I'm not stretching their mouth enough. Chi mouths are just so little.
