Yesterday Sarah and I (well actually it was just me and she was too chicken to go in ) went and bought some frozen quail. I forgot mine in Sarah's freezer in the rush to get to the show today so we decided that the dogs and I would go down to Sarah's during the week and have a quail picnic in the garden! Has anyone else fed whole quail (im talking head, feet and feathers too!)? They're huge, like 6oz each I believe so Sarah and I were trying to work out if we should cut it up first, or give it and then refreeze afterwards. Any suggestions?

Lol yeah really excited about it haha, hoping that they like it.
They really are large though! Do you think maybe we should pluck some of the feathers first? Or cut them into halves or thirds?

I'd probably cut them in half. 6oz is a huge meal & if it were me I'd be too stingy to let there be any waste. LOL Or you could always save any left overs (but that would be messy to store). I had to soak a couple of the pups chicks in pork blood to get them remotely interested in eating them with the fluff. You could maybe do that? Or pluck some feathers wouldn't be a bad idea on a wing or something to get them started?
Sounds like fun though...can't wait to hear how you make out!

Oh yeah hahaha no way could they have a 6oz. meal, can you imagine the poop the next day LOL We were hoping that by cutting them in half or thirds that it would get them interested because they can taste the inside? Fingers cross haha

How did I miss this thread?! OMG I am so excited for you guys!! We did quail once. And yeah, they were pretty big. Probably robin sized. (Do you guys have robins in the UK? ha) Anyway, of course Mr. Picky Butt wouldn't eat one just plain, so I skinned it. Their skin/feathers just peel right off really easy. Then he had a go. After I smeared it with tripe. I'm sure your guys will LOVE it! If they know what's good for them! LOL!
