Are you sure his teeth have tarter? or is it staining? Laurel has some really yucky staining I tried for ages to get off...had a vet look and they told me it was staining, but I was certain it was tarter. I doubt that's the case w/ Pip lol...but maybe?

No, it's definitely not staining, it's hardened yellow stuff. It's not flat. I wish I had started using Petzlife and brushing right after he had his dental, but dummy me didn't. His teeth look good overall and his back teeth are good, probably because of the bullies, but his front teeth have some of it in between them and near the gumline. Overall since brushing and using Petlize they look pretty good.
Roo has some build up too. It's much harder to brush hers, but she's better with it now then she used to be. Still hard to get her back teeth. The gel seems to help her teeth more then his though for whatever reason. I'm considering having Roo get a dental done when she goes under to get the pins removed.

If she has to go under and they can do it quick, what can it hurt? Especially now that she IS letting you brush, it will help maintain it longer. Eee poor Pip -- I know 3 of my girls get tarter buildup on the 1st top pre-molar. So about once a month I just scrape it off with a little dental pick I got at Walgreens, then "polish" the tooth for as long as they'll let me with an oral b sonic toothbrush (re: Tracy's suggestion! )...but it all depends if Pip will let you do that or not. I don't really let mine tell me "no" and never have...Birdie is throwing fits about everything lol but I don't give in b'c if I do I know it will be hard forever

That's my feeling too. I think they can do a quick dental (her teeth are good in general, nothing awful) and since she's going to be under already, it's the perfect time. I'm pretty certain I'd have no problem using the ultrasonic toothbrush on Pip, he's ridiculously good about letting me brush his teeth and getting in there in general. Roo is more difficult, but she's doing a lot better now. She's still squirmy though and I'm always afraid I'm going to hurt her which is why I slacked off, particularly after her LP surgery when I didn't feel it safe to manipulate her. If she has to go under and they can do it quick, what can it hurt? Especially now that she IS letting you brush, it will help maintain it longer.
