Anyone have any advice on how to keep an Arthritic dog comfy? Sandy isn't a Chihuahua, but she is a collie mix....so I don't know if this may belong someone else; I need advice badly….my heart is breaking, & I cry if I think about her suffering…. She is around 11 years old, & has really seem to gone down hill this month....she is limping really bad.....she at times will not put pressure on her front paw...the only time she will… is when I give her a pain pill that the Vet gave me for such instances. She is also takes glucosamine tablets everyday, & an adequan injection about once a month. We have been reading online, & thinking about adding a senior dog supplement to her daily food. Is there anything else we and do to help? The Vet basically says nothing else we can really do…..& we want to do all we can to help her.

We use apple cider vinegar w/the mother, diatameceous earth, glucosamine/condriton/msm, and bovine colostrum for our elderly cat with severe arthritis in his hips. It doesn't fix the really bad days, but it does help him not have to take pain pills 99% of the time.. he's also on a raw diet, which, to be honest... was the best thing I ever did for his hips.

I think you are doing what you can do, I do agree that a raw diet immensely helps joint troubles, but also understand for various reasons that not working for people. I don't know much about bovine colostrum but that sounds like something you may be able to look into and add in.

Oh dear I don't know what advice I can give, all my dogs are still young and thankfully none have gone through this yet. I read that some people had positive results with cononut oil while I was reading up on it. I hope that some of the things people have suggested can offer Sandy some relief. xxxxx

I don't have anything to suggest as I have no experience with this but just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about this and I really hope you can find some natural alternatives that give Sandy a better quality of life and less pain xx

If she were mine I'd be talking to a homeopathic trained vet for advice, vets can refer you, though they may roll their eyes at the thought. I do know of people and animals which have had good results with arthritis when using homeopathy, when conventional medicine could do no more. So I'd consider it for my dogs, but personal choice Hope you find something that helps for her x

I don't have much to add either..sorry you and she are going through this though. The only thing I can suggest you have probably already thought of and that's a great orthopedic type bed, or even just a really comfy soft one. Also what about a heating pad for when she's laying down..don't know where u live and if it's already hot there or not.

I would suggest adding in fish oil. It is an anti inflammatory and might help. Start slow but you should be able to work up to a regular human fish oil capsule every day.
