That you really aren't supposed to breed from this combination now? Or is it acceptable to so so for "pet breeding"? Because some people seem happy to condone and congratulate them on pups?
Do the public not realise when they are getting fleeced by people who only breed to line their pockets?
In the Uk.

I don't actually know what you are asking.
The idea is to educate people into what is and what not is acceptable. I would assume they are told why their pups aren't registered but being KC reg doesn't necessarily Mean you have a well, ethically bred dog.
I don't get the point in this post maybe I'm Just stressed and tired

I find this subject a little odd & frustrating actually. Obviously since in the US it is OK to breed LC to SC & the pups can be registered, I don't see anything wrong with it. It's done alllllll the time!! It's really stupid because could finish out a LC/SC bred pup that was LC in the US, send it to the UK & it could "legally" be bred to LC there & their puppies could be registered. (or at least that is the way I understand it) Makes NO sense to me actually that it is ok in so many countries but not others. So while I'm not a resident of the UK I guess I can't really answer not being from the UK. But I have seen PLENTY of nice (papered) LC Chi's from the UK with SC's in their pedigree as they came from another country...and vice versa. What is the difference between that & one that was bred IN the UK (other than it not having papers)? Nothing.

It makes no sense and is another stupid UK rule IMO, it is a gene, a single gene, that decides coat length, otherwise genetically a LC chi and a SC chi are identical. A gene does not make a LC a different breed than a SC. You can't eventually get a 'medium' coat from breeding LC to SC.
SC to SC can produce LC and in the UK you can register those pups...so what does that tell you?
A LC to SC breeding isn't cross breeding or mix breeding, IMO its just a stupid controlling rule that makes no sense and was made by someone that doesn't even understand the basics of dog genetics, quite ridiculous IMO!

I would think that by separating LC and SC in the UK you are eventually going to have a divergence in type. Has this happened yet? Is one variety generally more typey than the other?

Lol you guys!!
Lotus & Leilani have a lot of smooth breeding behind them. Idk why we have this rule maybe angie knows??
Personally I don't think we have a deviation in type yet. Different breeders have different types but there isn't a huge difference between coats from what I've seen

I don't remember exactly what the reasoning is behind it but I've been told that if you prefer one coat or the other, its important to use a stud of alternate coat at least every 3 generations to avoid some genetic issues...got to get more info on it, but the lady has one of the most successful breeding programs in the US so I filed the info away! I'll call her and ask today or tomorrow and find out why.
