I agree Lisa about the electric for the piggy shed. I will only use it when its really cold to stop the water bottles freezing up, so yes its deep beds of hay. I must admit with them I worry more in the hot weather that they will get heat stroke so they are either out in runs in the shade during the day or its several fans and air con on and big electric bills and a moaning husband. My three smooth coat Chi's all have very different coats to each other. My one who really gets cold is just as you describe Rez in that she too is very sparse on her underside including under her neck and belly and on the inside of her thighs on her hind legs and also behind her elbows. Her coat is very sleak and fine all over. My other two dont have any thin areas but one has a very dence short coat all over and the other has a thicker coarser strip along the length of her back. This is now not as prominant now that she is on Ziwi and added salmon oil. Ive also seen other smooth Chi's around with quite a length to their coat and it amazes me how much they do vary in just the smooths.

Lula is the same, she's barely got any fur on her belly or underside of her back legs...she gets cold.
In the winter, she often wears little fleeces or jumpers to take the edge of the cold. If we go out, she always has a little coat on. People think i'm mad until they see how cold she is. Thre are loads of little jumpers and fleeces on ebay that are mega cheap.

One of Rez's jumpers arrived today and its TDF. I love it.
He ran his little legs off at the park today too - kept nice and warm.
I had him in his jacket for the walk - it's funny how amazed people are by chihuahuas in coats. Funny.

My Roo is the same way. She gets cold very easily as she has very little fur and a bare belly and neck etc. She's also thin. She loves her snuggle sacks when the weather is cold and I also put little fleeces on her which helps a lot. Pip has a much thicker coat and he's generally fine. We do have pretty bad winters where I am.
