I wouldn't go through with it either based on the anaesthetic problems. Scary.

I have never heard of this jab bit, Sarah & Hollie! I dunno if we even have it here but hmmm, will have a look into it. Even still, he really isn't bad or annoying as far as being intact, and I wonder what the side effects of the jab are? I will have a look into it though!
Louise - I'm not going to let him be used at stud b'c I just don't know for sure about the knee...plus I just don't think his pedigree is concentrated enough, I don't think he can reproduce his type, he's a sport of sorts, I guess, so I have just put off the people that have asked me thus far.

I would definitely not risk putting him under again. Too risky going by his history, imo.

Like I can't think of ANYTHING I'd let him be put under for,...my vet assures me she can do it just fine but she was also the one that couldn't get him to wake up the 2nd time teeth were pulled He has always been 'delicate', was sickly as a pup and is still my 1st to go down with some sort of issue. I dunno why he's like that but just another reason I wouldn't want pups from him despite loving his temperament...no one wants a sickly dog.

As Tracy said, we yell NEUTER for people who are not responsible.. you are VERY responsible, and I would say let him be for a few years then re-eval. It's not the end of the world having an intact dog, PITA around girls in season, but I hear having those hormones can HELP him more than hurt.

Jerry votes leave him alone! Would it be possible to have him xrayed later on to determine the knee issues? (long after Pet insurance has him covered). If he was misdiagnosed with LP, you may want to stud him out later...

Simple. Don't neuter. I wouldn't risk it either with the anesthesia issues. Plain & simple. I'd also wait & see with the LP thing. From what you've told me about their LP "assessment" I don't even believe he has LP. Lemme haul on your kneecap as hard as I can & I bet I can make it move out of place! Just don't buy it myself. I give you credit though for being responsible as far as that goes though. But if you are ever convinced he was wrongly diagnosed I say stud him out if people want to use him. In the future of course. Only thing is after they're used for breeding then I bet he'd get more adamant about getting to your girls when they are in season....
