Having seen an established breeder yesterday I have been told that as chihuahuas are so small you can ask for half dose vaccines...and half the price!! It was only after I said I had one little boy that went peculiar after his second vaccine and was asked if I gave the full amount. Not sure if you have covered this before but does anyone else do this?

Yes. I asked my vet to when I had daisys done. Had to pay full Price tho!! They give the same size vaccination to great Danes as they do chis. Tracy (Brodysmom) had Brody Titre tested at the beginning of the year as he had only had his puppy vaccs and his immunity was v v high at 2 years old. I have been talking to my vet about vaccinating as everything I've researched says that they are immune after puppy vaccs and 1 year booster and they don't need anymore. www.itsfortheanimals.com/DODDS-CHG-VACC-PROTOCOLS.HTMThis is quite interesting to read.

I was so worried about vacs when I knew they would have the same amount as a great dane - my vet said they needed the full amount to get the antibodies.
Problem is don't you need to prove yearly vacs if you ever want to use kennels (which I wont) or take abroad (which I might)?

Mine have only had puppy vaccs and I'm not sure that I will give them any more. Feo is the main concern, his allergies are numerous and all severe and I don't want to risk him developing any more autoimmune problems than he already has, and they are a very common side effect of vaccs. I think they should have puppy vaccs but not be bombarded with vaccs every year, modern research shows immunity can last the lifetime of the dog, and you either have immunity or you don't, you can't "boost iimmunity" or top it up somehow. Here is some food for thought, it is from the results of a survey done across all breeds by the kennel club on causes of death. I couldn't find the link quickly on the web so I printscreened the relevent page. Cancer is the number one cause of death now in dogs, I believe we should be more worried about that, than about that than any of the disseases that we vaccinate against, as it is much more likely that that is what our dogs will die of. If I can decrease the liklihood that my dogs will get cancer by NOT giving them booster vaccs, then that it what I will be doing.

The other thing I see is other than the flu jab (which changes yearly) we don't have yearly vaccinations for the likes of polio etc. A lot of it I do think is money making. The sad thing is it'll keep going on until Something super bad proves that it's not needed. From what I've read a lot of people are starting to go this more natural way.
