Louie isn't much of a barker at all. He never barks at the door. He will run to see who it is but he usually hovers in the background to see who it is before he decides if they are worthy enough to greet or not and even then all they get is some furious tail wagging!

Mine will bark if someone knocks, but they'll shush if I say quiet. Like Brody, they always want to see who is at the door, they're so curious. Pip will stand there and Roo will stand up on him by putting her front paws on his back to get a better view. lol.

I really like the citronella spray collars. It did not work for Laurel (nothing has), but it REALLY minimized Ivy's barking. They do a little poof of citronella in the dogs face when they start barking (you can get ones that are remote controlled so you control when they've had their say) and it just gets their attention. Our local doggy daycare uses them and they recommended them to me. The rest of mine are pretty good, they know they are allowed to bark to announce the arrival of someone but when I clap twice and say "quiet" they all just shut up haha. Dunno how/why it works but it does. The nice thing about the citronella collar is it CAUSES NO PAIN and is not inhumane in any way, just startles the dog.

Oh goodness...just coming from one last minute trick-or-treater. A few of Gabby's friends just stopped in even though our lights were out. haha The Chi's did go mental as I'd just gotten home & let them out of their crates so they were a bit wound anyway. Mine do bark upon arrival of someone but quiet once the people are in within 30 seconds or so. I do try to get after them as 7 (ok maybe 5 as Lulu & Marley don't bark at visitors) dogs barking at the same time is a tad overwhelming. Usually if I hold Matilda & Mari it's not so bad...those 2 are the barking instigators. BAD GIRLS!! haha I understand that isn't a help. But yeah, only thing I can add to suggestions is using a spray bottle/water gun, can of pennies, can of air....? I do tend to keep music on during the day while I'm working to drown any outside noises out as far as that goes. But as for people coming to the door...dogs bark. So I tend to not worry as long as they quiet after their "harmonious" greeting.

Yeah I am not too worried about them barking at people's arrival, it is just getting them to stop that is the problem. I may try a spray bottle when they bark out of control. Thanks guys!
