I was out and about today so I stopped in at the dog boutique I like, and they have the Real Meat food. It is a little more expensive than ZP. A 2 lb bag is 24.95, instead of 2.2 lbs. It is shaped more like nuggets instead of squares. They don't make bags smaller than 2 lbs, but one of the employees was nice enough to give me a little baggie out of her own food. She said her 2 chis love it who are both really picky. Lion and Penny liked it too. We got a sample of the lamb flavor, and I bought some of the chicken and venison treats. The food and treats both have sea salt in them, I am not sure why. I think I will try this food for variety but I wouldn't choose it over ZP. Treats: ZP on left, Real Meat on right Food: ZP left, Real Meat right

Cool! Thanks for the pics, I've been wondering. Those Real Meat chunks look pretty thick, did either Lion or Penny have a difficult time chewing it? I have one I think would spit it out if she couldn't chew it entirely, and one who would probably just gulp it down. LOL. Glad to hear they both enjoyed it though. Definitely a nice option for variety!

Yes. Thank you for this. I, too, worried about the salt and I think pomegranate. The pumpkin seemed fine enough since poor Hope has eaten her weight in pumpkin with her colitis.
I messaged them asking if their food was similar to the beloved ZP. They messaged me back after a few days because apparently my inquiring about their food made them think that they should offer small sample packages for sale. They also reminded me that there is a 100% guarantee if my gang did not like it.
The size REALLY worries me because my chicks breathe in the food. Eden, in particular, is so small yet has learned to slurp the ZP with the big girls. I was thinking of buying the treats but the shipping cost what the treats did so I backed off the idea.

I also emailed them asking about a sample size bag.. They said they could offer a 4 oz size for $5 + $5 shipping. That seems pretty expensive for such a small bag.
As for the size of the food, my 2 had no problem chewing it up and Penny likes to inhale her food. They spit it out at first, probably because the texture is different than ZP.
Karen, how much do they charge for shipping from the Real Meat site? I can get a bag of treats for $8 here on the ground, I would be happy to grab one and send it to you if you would like. Shipping would probably be about $1-$2.

Let us know how they do on it Missy! It would have to be super duper good to have me prefer it over ZiwiPeak though. It looks to me like the squares of the real meat are more 'processed' than Ziwi. Does it say if it's air dried? It almost looks like it went through an extruder to produce that shape.

All I got was a teeny little sample(like a jewelry bag size), but I am debating buying a larger bag for variety. I like ZiwiPeak a lot and I don't think I would ever switch them to just this food.

If Real Meat has other proteins different than lamb/fish/venison that Ziwi has - then that would be good!

Yea, it looked like they had a BISON flavor! The other meat flavors are the ONLY reason I would add it in with our Ziwi, but not if it's going to cost even MORE than Ziwi...! I can get the treats in store here for 4.99, shipping would be probably $2-$3. I, too, would be happy to pick up a bag at this cost for anyone who wanted to try em out and see if it's something you would like to continue! Just lemme know!
