We were at the vets today for Darla and Dillon's booster and the vet confirmed what i thought while checking Darla over. I had noticed recently she was lifting her left back leg when out on a walk and kinda skipping at times. Jamie said it was cause she didnt like the wet ground from the rain.lol Men eh. Anyway, it is a grade 1, i had to get that out of the rather snooty vet, i dont think she liked me asking or even knowing about it, the weirdo (not our usual one and didnt like how she was with the dogs)but she said as long as Darla can still play and run etc without any pain then she wont need the surgery, but may get arthritis later on. Hopefully she continues to do well on it anyhow.
I am insured, but fingers crossed she doesnt have to go through it. It makes you kinda sad to hear that news, even if you thought it yourself, as am sure a few of you will know. She is still her usual happy go lucky wee lady and is totally well again after her tummy upset thankfully too.

I'm sorry to hear about Darla...but if they're going to have it grade 1 is what you want! I'm sure she'll be able to live her life w/o needing the surgery....and hopefully the arthritis with age is minimal! Glad she's feeling better!!

Sorry to hear that Terri but all too typical in our breed. You could start some supplements to hopefully slow down progression and maybe support the knee enough that it won't get arthritis. Glucosamine/chondroitin and fish oil, maybe some vitamin C is where I would start.

Sorry to hear that - did you know it affects twice as many females as males regardless of whether they are altered or not? That seems so odd to me.
Do you have her on a glucosamine supplement? That might really help. I know you already have her on a great diet. Fish oil and glucosamine can make a big difference.
Because of her age, the vet is probably right - she should manage just fine staying trim, without surgery. Bryco has a grade 1 and he never even skips.

Oh I forgot - Ester-C is great, too. MSM will also help, IF she has any pain associated with it, but I doubt it. The NUPRO Joint support has all these things but they are a pretty low dosage for a diagnosed issue. IF the knee is popping out on its own, it likely is a grade 2. Grade 1's stay in place pretty much 100% of the time unless manually manipulated out...it may be between the grades because the tendon is tight enough to pull it back over when the vet luxates it, but if its coming out on its own, as indicated by the skipping behavior, I would guess it's a grade 2.

Sorry to hear that, hun. I'm sure she will be fine without surgery though, here's hoping. Hopefully some supplements will help too. Pip has grade 2 and he uses his legs fine. Once in awhile he'll skip and sorta jack it out when running to pop it back in place.

Sorry to hear that babe BUT all is not lost. Grade 1 is zilcho, daisy was near on grade one at 8 months, at 2 years she's solid as a rock, so it could just be a little slippage, I am dubious especially if the vet didn't want to say anything. It's definitely manageable and with salmon oil and glucosamine and chrondroitin it can help prevent arthritis. So many dogs have it, I think it's inevitable at some point tbh. I do worry about mine
