Hi - Charlie started sneezing an snorting last week and seems to have got worse - sounds like he has a cold as he sounds very nasal. I wanted to take him to the vet today but Eric said no but I now wish that I had as I am worried it may be a respiratory infection. Has anyone had anything similar? I tend to panic and rush to the vet.
He is eating and playing normally.
many thanks Sharon x

Mine have been reverse sneezing a lot I figured it's because of the weather. One had a cold too but again I put it down to the weather, I'd just keep an eye on him

If he starts getting a discharge from his nose it could turn out to be kennel cough just keep an eye on him...........

Maria had 3 days of sneezing last week and thought she must have something up her nose as her chest was clear - she's fine now. Hope he's OK Sharon and you can take him to the vets tomorrow.

Allergies seem to really kick up this time of year, chances are its just that but it also could be kennel cough or the like? I'd get him to the vets just cuz if there is fluid in his lungs you wouldn't want it to turn into pneumonia?

My vet says that if they're eating and drinking normally, then there is not usually too much wrong. That being said, I would keep an eye and if it goes on for too long, it may be worth a vet check.
Sometimes when Lula has a reverse sneezing episode and it goes on for a while, I use a small amount of Manuka honey dissolved in warm water to help soothe it. Manuka honey is said to have natural antibacterial properties. Its worth a try and might help little Charlies throat.
I have been told that too much reverse sneezing /coughing can sometimes cause inflammation in the trachea which may lead to an infection which can be cleared up with a course of antibiotics.
hope he feels better soon. xxx

Hi everyone - thanks for all the advice. We took Charlie to Medivet on Sunday as the vet we normally see was on duty so thought best to go then instead of waiting till Monday afternoon. She said it could be a grass seed up his nose but feeling his throat said his glands were swollen so was more likely an infection. So she prescribed anti biotics plus 2 other lots of medication so £118 later ..... anyhow at least we could start the medication that night. Today he seems much better - the sneezing has stopped and he is not so nasal so hopefully its clearing up. We are not going to show him this Saturday though as the vet said what he has could be infectious so best to keep him away from other dogs. Susie will make a note of the honey - we still have never managed to visit you to see you 'little hotel' x
