I so wish I fed Cici on raw, it's just so confusing, it looks so hard, is it? I mean the benfits are just amazing but I would be scared incase I mucked it up and something went wrong. I mean I have read a lot of the raw food threads and stuff but I still just don't know where to start. Am I making it a bigger deal than it is? I will be at college after the summer will I be able to cope or is it very time consuming? ahhhh I don't know LOL!!

At first it can be a little confusing to get percentages right, to get it "down" what your Chi requires for intake & adding several different protiens w/o causing tummy upset (we always added "cold turkey" w/o issue). But after that gets figured out it's VERY easy. If you were interested in it the summer time would be a great time to start because you should have everything sorted before you begin college. For one Chi it should be very easy & inexpensive after you get the basics down. With our six...it does get time consuming preparing & feeding & cleaning up. We do more grinds (meat/bone/organ mix) & some premades and 2-3 boney meals a week to make it more realistic. But for one Chi...it would be a breeze. LOL I'd read up on Tracy's thread & give it a go if you're interested. It is TOTALLY worth the month or two to get going in the long run!!

Yes that's what I was thinkin, the summer would be a great time to start because I will be able to focus ALL my time on Cici! Is it expensive? how much on average does it cost? I mean right now with Cici on kibble its only costing me around £10 for a big bag of James well beloved and that lasts her around 4 months! it's great. Also my Cici is a meat lover ( well she goes crazy for the odd bit of chicken ) and so I think she would prefer it. where can I find Tracy's thread ? And thanks for the reply m'chis

The thread is sticky'd in this forum.
If you are worried I would possibly start on a premade like natural instinct they do different types some are just meat and bone and you'd have to add your own organs others are complete but have vegetables in whilst they are both equally as good veges are needed and when I used it their waste output was more frequent!!
The premades are 20% bone 80% meat so you would need to do a boneless meal to even it out plus add in a bit of liver and kidney which is fine!!
From this you would see all the benefits from raw minus the dental benefits but swapping out a few meals a week for a meaty bone will give you those benefits!
I think this is a good way for people who want totry it but don't have the time or commitment because it is time consuming when you're portioning everything out and when you first start you're weighing and it is quite overwhelming!
I get lots quite cheap and big bones for free so it doesn't cost me much at all but it can be expensive if you can't source stuff cheaply!
How much does cici weigh and how active is she? That would help know how much to feed her and then cost can be estimated from there

Well, I can't say how costly it is in Scotland...I'm in the US & have to order variety online so it costs us about $110-$125 every month to feed our six depending on what we buy. Kind of expensive BUT you save on vet fees in the long run. I was going to say as well you can add a supplement (we use Nupro) to make sure they get all the nutrition in case you "miss" anything. You don't need to but I don't always trust myself so it makes me feel better. haha We also add salmon oil every 2-3 days as well. Tracy's thread is in the raw forum...here it is. www.heychihuahuas.com/index.cgi?board=rawfood&action=display&thread=34

Oh & you don't NEED to order online. I choose to because I like the grinds & other proteins I can't find locally. I also add in Stella & Chewy's raw patties to get different proteins that I can't find locally w/o paying an arm & a leg. Like Sarah said it may be a good alternative if you want & just sub boney meals in there a couple times a week. There are lots of ways to feed raw--that's the good part. Something for everyone basically!
