Hello everyone. does anyone know what their chi's temp is (normal) Lula has eaten something bad (probably poo in the garden or park) and she got an upset stomach..this then caused her to get a little infection and so the vet put her on antibiotics. Her temp was very high and she was quite poorly for a few days. She has now been on anti biotics for 4 days. the vet told me to take her temp every day for theweek to monitor it. It is now low (98.2*F) but she is completely well, bouncy and lively, eating / drinking normal etc. what's everyones opinions as they say her temp is low but she feels and is acting very normal, i thought maybe chi's may be slightly different to other dogs because of their size??

It may be your thermometer, I'd take her temp again in an hour or so and see if you get the same reading.

OK...this is where i have to admit to being a bit of a thickie!! lol The vets said pop her in and they would give her the quickie once over, check her temp as it was unusual and check my thermometer...
They checked her and the themometer and her temp was normal 100.3*F....Apparently i had not put it in and lifted it (as you are meant to do but i had not been shown?) and i have been taking the temp of her poo which is apparently cooler, hence the low temp reading! I must have got lucky with all the other temp readings i had done as they were always fine!
Luckily the vet doesn't charge me for stuff like this so bit of a bonus! lol
but at least she's ok, which is good.... and panic over !!

The vet showed me how to do it, she said to put it in about 1cm..when i pulled it out there was a tiny bit of poo but it wasn't really covered.
The vet nurse said they do it quite often?? They apparently often re-check temp readings?
Although they're super helpful in my vets and always really lovely, I did feel like a clutz!!
Lula is back to her normal self which is why i wasn't really too worried but it's always good to check on these things...
I figured someone on here would know...this forum is like a Chihuahua-encyclopedia xxxxx

Lol that's so funny!!
I think different thermometers take diff temps I have 2 and they are about .5 of a degree out. I didn't know u put it in and tip up but I've always put it in at an angle and twisted it about anyway as it seems more comfy for them
