So Louie didn't have his boosters in Nov 2011, and although I don't want to over vaccinate, I do worry about not having it done tbh.
He had his original puppy jabs with his previous owner, but they missed getting his boosters done so when I got him I took him to get them done and the vets conned me into having the puppy shots done again, but has not had any boosters since.
He had DHPPI & Lepto on 25.11.2010 and the same again on 9.12.2010
So according to their records he was 'due' Nov 2011 and boy didn't i know it the amount of reminders i had for it!
I kinda feel a bit guilty leaving it this long but at the same time don't want it done if unnecessary.
Titre test is a possibility but does anyone know the costs?
I was thinking of getting his boosters done every other year but i'm not sure
What is your vaccination protocol? How often do you vaccinate and do you get titres done?

Just been sat thinking about it, and hes had 2 lots of puppy jabs...but no boosters!
Hes never had the boosters the year after his puppy jabs....is that bad? Are the boosters different shots to the puppy ones?
I was planning on getting his boosters done this year anyway...but now I don't know where we are in terms of hsi immunity if hes never had the boosters and only the puppy jabs

Well you can't actually boost immunity either try are immune or not.
I don't give Lepto at all, not even to puppies on recommendation from my Holistic Vet.
Puppies have 1/2 vial of DHPP each at 12 weeks and that is it for life. My girls have all had puppy vaccinations and nothing again. My vet doesn't see it as necessary, he doesn't vaccinate his own pets at all.
Titre is about £90 I think. Make sure you take him to a wood or something to have a good sniff it reawakens the antibodies

I'm the same as Sarah (seems we do everything together LOL!) and don't give boosters. When I was still seeing my old vet I asked about titre and it was £90.
As Sarah said, you can't boost immunity. They're either immune or their not. Our holistic vet (same as Sarah's) doesn't vaccinate his own dogs, not even puppy shots. He doesn't do lepto (as Sarah said).
Personally, I wouldn't do it. I've read so much that says they do more harm than good and the likelihood of your dog having a reaction to the vaccination is actually greater than them contracting the disease they're being vaccinated for. But I think it's about what YOU feel comfortable doing. Most vets will advise to vaccinate because they aren't given any training and only know what the medical companies tell them so it's hard to get advice there. Maybe read up on it online and see how you feel?

Also my vet showed me the medical vet book when I took the pups for their vaccinations and it said that DHPP is needed once at 12 weeks to be most affective

I had read that they either gain immunity from 1st vaccs or they don't and that the boosters do nothing but just wanted to check as have read alot of things.
I know when he had the puppy jabs again when I got him he was off colour for a few days, didn't eat much and was hot and looked really miserable just wasn't himself.
Sarah I trust your judgement and knowledge implicitly and I always respect your honesty. I know that you do your 100% best for your pups and if your not vaccinating there must be a very good reason.
I did decided I was going to get his boosters done this year then every 3 years but I don't think I will bother now. I mean we don't get multiple vaccines for things like polio etc so why should they need boosters? Makes me question the vaccinations I get the rabbits to....though they haven't had in 2yrs as I couldn't afford it but if thats the same thing to

To be fair, just been thinking and i know of alot of people who never had their dog jabbed or who only had the first couple done and the dogs have lived to a ripe old age. Plus louies been fine for the last year. My friend has a rescue dog who can't be vaccinated due to his aggression and he is fine and must be going on about 8 now

Yeah I agree Steph. I'm lucky because my new vet will show me all the information rather than expecting me to take his word on it. I don't know about rabbits but would assume it was the same
