Thank you so much for your support. I am just heartbroken. Everything i try to find out about GME is so negative. Ive found who i think is one of this countrys top animal neurologists. Hes based at the davies specialist veterinary centre in bedfordshire. His name is Laurent Garosi. Ive asked my vet to refer my little mia to him. I cannot believe 2 weeks ago she was running around like a whippet and now she is sleeping nearly all day and feeling very down. Shes on high doses of steroids and tramadol pain relief. I did find a clinic in boston usa who claims to have a good success rate treating GME on a cocktail of a 3 drug treatment. From what ive read on clinic in bedfordshire they use a similar treatment protocol. She can have her syringomyelia treated to, as my vet is just ignoring that condition and she has a severe case of it. I will keep you all informed of how my little mia progresses or not. I just appreciate the support as this is a very scarey, lonely time at the moment. So thank you.

See if your vet will refer you to the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket. They are specialists in neurological disease and have the most amazing facilities.

You are all very kind. I understand fully about not letting mia suffer too long. Im aware that we try all avenues to save the life of our precious little chihuahuas. But im also aware that i have to recognise that a time may come when i have to ask myself, am i doing this for me or her? But she is still only a baby 18 months old, and i have to give her every chance i can. She loves life and people and dogs and children. She is such a sweet little happy soul and deserves a chance, however slim. I wish i had known about the clinic in newmarket. But ive already made an appt for mia to go to bedfordshire to see the neurologist there. Hes very high up in his field, infact i would say one of the top in the country. His name is Laurent Garosi. Look him up and you will see why im holding on to see him. Unfortunately he is in huge demand and i will have to wait until july 10th to see him. Hes also very expensive, a consult alone is £217. If she starts to go downhill by then, i will have to opt for someone else. Thank you all for your words of comfort. My heart is breaking daily when i think of what i might be losing. My best friend and my closest companion. She comes everywhere with me, even work. I love this little chi more than anything else in the world.

Hi, just an update on Mia. I have found another neurologist who i phoned and spoke to today. He has told me to go back to my vet and ask him to start treatment of chemotherapy injections every month each session over 2 days. He also advised another drug that can be taken with the steroids and chemotherapy injections. So i went back to my vet today and gave him this information and he is going to phone that neurologist and find out more about this treatment and get her started on it. I know for a fact that this is the proper protocol for treating GME as ive read tons on it. Its also the treatment that the specialist clinic in Bedfordshire use. So hopefully i will start to see a difference in Mia soon. At least my vet is now willing to try this treatment. I had to do something as i noticed mia's back right leg is now affected. So its all down her left side and now her right back leg. I was getting desperate and i feel so depressed seeing my healthy baby decline so fast. She really is the most sweetest little dot, and i cant imagine my life without her.

I don't have any advice to help, but I just wanted to add my support and say how sorry I am to hear what little Mia and you are going through. I hope that the treatment can help her get better... I know only too well what you mean about being your best friend and going everywhere with you... I feel the same way about my little Harry. Good luck with the treatment plan
