ok she is drinking loads of water. Do you guys think that's normal? Maybe the meds? I put her water dish down for her and she drank for like a full minute which kinda shocked me. I put it down a couple times earlier and she drank a fair amount as well, but not as much as this last time. She's also coughing a wee bit (a few times today) I'm assuming that might be from the tube that was down her throat from the surgery though. I think I'll give them a call later and just see what they say, but I'm thinking it's probably ok. What do you all think? She seems fine otherwise.

And the coughing is normal b'c of the tube like you suggested. Let us know what they say when you call but I wouldn't worry too much...I'd worry if she WASNT drinking, but drinking lots is good I'd think If she is on an anti-inflamatory steroid, that can make her really thirsty.

The drinking is fine! You want her to drink and flush out her system well. That's good! I was going to suggest offering her water several times to get her to drink. Sounds like she already knows to do that. Yes, as Kristi said, the coughing is from the ET tube. It irritates the throat. No worries. Just be sure and take her out frequently so she can empty her bladder and not have to 'hold it' in the crate.

Thanks for asking, Lucy. And thank you also Kristi and Tracy for your above replies. She is doing really well. The exercises are no problem at all, she's very good with that, the hard part is the icing of her knees, she hates it. She squirms and squirms, she really hates the cold applied. Her legs are starting to loosen up ever so slightly. Walking is still a slow process, she will have times when she will walk across the living room and then other times she just stands there and doesn't want to walk too much. She still has not gone poo so I'm going to ask them about that today. That position will be tough for her as it requires her to squat and bend her legs for a longer amount of time. She's always been a really slow pooper too. lol. As far as the water drinking, they said that was normal and to be expected, and to let her drink as much as she wants, which of course is what I've been doing. The coughing they also said was normal, due to the tube as we all thought. The hard part is having to keep her crated and having her wear that soft cone at night. I just feel sooo bad. The easy part is Roo just has the best personality. She never whines or acts upset ever. She acts a little sad at night having to be in her crate with the cone on, she's used to being the bed with me, so I see her looking up at me a little sad and confused about it all and that breaks my heart. I also see her eying Pip when he's sitting on the sofa in the sun, so all of that makes me feel terrible. I am going to pick up an x-pen from Amazon to give her a little bit more freedom in the coming weeks. Put her MS bed in there. But she is just extremely good-natured and easy going so that really does help tons. The first day home as sore as she was she stood in the middle of the living room, wouldn't walk, but just stood there wagging her tail like mad, all happy. It was just the cutest thing. One thing is, I'm glad now I had it done when I did and not earlier this year like I had originally planned. It would have been hellish taking her outside to go potty in all the snow and ice. And it was a very snowy/icy Winter this year in January and February. So the timing was probably for the best.

Hi Paula, just read through your thread about dear little Roo`s aftercare.. Thanks for keeping us all up to date with her progress I got told last year Lola would need surgery for her back leg but after a few weeks it settled down and they re-graded it to a 1. The thought of surgery made me cry for days How bad was Roo before her surgery? Lola`s leg pops when shes on my lap and shes circling to sit down it makes me cringe She never looks like shes in pain and only limps some cold mornings when shes a bit stiff.. Roo is such a brave little girl, im so happy that shes going to feel so much better when she has recovered! Keep us updated with her photos aswell, its nice to see her making good progress! Hopefully time will fly and Pip can have his best friend back
