I sent this video to Kristi, but I think she's been really busy and hasn't had the chance to look at it. Izzie does this thing about 2 times a day, like she going to throw up or she's coughing up a hairball, but nothing ever comes out. She started doing it a couple times and I grabbed the camera, and was able to get a video. This is about how long it happens every time.
It worries me because we used to find some of my hair in their poop. Not sure how or why, but we did. I don't anymore, but what if there is a wad stuck in her somewhere or something, and she keeps trying to get it out?
Here is the video-

Thats reverse sneezing. Nothing to worry about. It's actually very common in small breed dogs. Most of mine do it...some every day & others never or rarely. Maribelle we cover up her nostrils up or block them 90% & it helps. Marley we rub his neck & Matilda we get her to kiss/lick something. Different techniques work to help different dogs stop. But chances are they'd stop on their own anyway. But Izzy is perfectly normal.

Really? Good! I have looked up videos on reverse sneezing and it didn't sound the same to me. Sometimes if she gets sidetracked she'll stop. She does it like 2 times a day. Why do they do that?

Yep, reverse sneezing. Sounds horrible, doesn't it? Next time she does it, pick her up and gently (but firmly) pinch her nostrils closed. She will swallow. It will stop it.
Some people will say to rub their throat, or gently blow in their face, or cup your hand and put it over their muzzle... but pinching their nose closed works the fastest and easiest in my opinion.

Thanks Tracey! I'll try it next time. She just did it a few minutes ago right after I posted this thread, lol. But yeah, it does sound bad, I always think she is going to throw up or something. It's weird she does it and not Bella.

Ya that is definitely reverse sneezing. Nothing to worry about! Miley and Leo do it a few times a week and I just open their mouth with one finger and plug their nose for a second and it stops right away. Sometimes just holding them and giving a calming pat helps too, Leo and Miley do it when they get a bit too excited.

Kristi is as the nationals:) I agree it's reverse sneezing it spuds different on different dogs! Mine honk ALL the time And they hVe normal sized muzzles the smaller the muzzle the more it seems to happen and your girls don't have little muzzles so it shouldn't be there frequent!! I tend to just stick my fingers over their nostrils!! Some times if it's a bad attack mine can't move at all they kinda lay down!! Don't worry about hair either they're dogs they're built to eat hair, feathers etc I have to pull poos out if they get mine

Paige pixie and Darcy seem to fo it a lot Paige ESP. Then she does a horrible cough at the end and I think she's going to be sick but she usually stops after the coughy bit.
