When i first joined the forum i was saying about Heidi my chi x being a bit overweight and needed to lose weight in time for her spay, well she has now gone from 8.8lb to 7.8lb. Im so happy, and shes feeling a lot better for it shes full of energy again and best of all it means she can be spayed in 2 weeks. She still looks a bit big around her chest and could probably do with loosing a bit more but not too much as she shouldn't be under 7lb. Im quite nervous about her being spayed though

Ah congratulations...i know how hard it is to keep chi's weight down. My little one is always on a diet and she's just lost 2lbs in the last 3 months! (lots for a chi) and is so much better and more agile.
Good luck with the spay...i'm sure she'll be fine (Although it is a super big worry and its only natural to stress about it xx)

Thank u, i really didn't think she would do it in time! We took her on hol recently though and she was out walking all day every day so that helped. Yeh i will cut her food back a bit more once shes spayed, our male parsons x gained a bit after he was neutered.

Good work on the weight loss! It can be hard to turn down those pleading eyes begging for ANYTHING edible lol. I agree that when she is spayed cut her food back more and weigh her weekly to monitor weight gain or loss. Eventually it will just become routine to feed her the right amount but finding the "balance point" can be tough. My hubby's chi was 21 lbs when I met him and she's now 9.5 lbs, and it took ages to figure out the right amount to feed her so she wouldn't gain or lose...but its possible and well worth it to have them healthier and trimmer and much better for their joints.

Thank u Yeh it is hard, especially when shes the only dog on a diet i feel bad if i give the others stuff. Shes never been overweight before i think the weight gain was down to me over feeding her after she had her pups 9 months ago, she was tiny afterwards she was down to 6lb something so i kept feeding her as she looked neglected. She doesnt seem to touch her food as much anymore infact shes only having kibble put down once a day because shes not getting through much but she is so full of energy its so nice to see her running again
