Lastnight before bed i dropped a box of maltesers in the hall outside my bedroom door. I thought i had got the ones that fell out but this morning just as me and the pups were heading downstairs to go get their breakfast, Dillon found one and gobbled it up before i could get it out his mouth. It must have rolled out of sight, and of course it would be Dillon that finds it before me eh. I know i am probably worrying needlessly but any chocolate scares me! We are back in bed now and the pups are all alseep, but i keep checking him for any increased heartrate. Hopefully that small amount will just make his poos a bit gross, but i worry over the slightest thing and get mad at myself cause am so careful with them. Jamie pissed me off too cause i was freaking trying to get it from Dillon and all he could say was, be quiet at this time in the morning! He was half asleep in bed, but i coulda walked over and slapped him for that! He just thinks i am silly but i would rather be safe than sorry. At least i know i am in good company here and you all get it.
Anyhow, fingers crossed that wee Dilly will be ok.
That boy likes to worry his mammy i tell you! Love him to bits though and would just die if anything happened! Especially if i could have prevented it x

I think its the cocoa content in chocolate that makes it dangerous. I don't think maltesers has very much at all it because its milk chocolate and not the highest quality (delicious none the less ;D) and most of it is that malt/honeycome ball inside anyway. Still I don't blame you for worrying but I'm sure he'll be fine I'm the same, I'd just do as you are and keep an eye on him. xx

Aw Terri, we are so much alike. I worry about every little thing too. I'm sure Dillon will be fine from one malteser as it's a very small amount of milk chocolate covering them. Plus milk chocolate is the least toxic form of chocolate for dogs and he only ate one. The darker chocolates, semi sweet and bakers chocolate are much more toxic. Here's a couple of good websites that show the amounts and toxicity for dogs: ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2007/10/pets/chocolate-chart-interactivewww.talktothevet.com/ARTICLES/DOGS/chocolatetoxic.HTMI would observe him and call your vet if you're concerned, but I think he'll be ok, hun. Keep us posted. xxxx

Maybe ring a vet and ask if you need reassurance. Maltesers are only a tiny bit of chocolate round the outside thankfully, not heavy on the chocolate, Mars choc is not strong choc either, if it was only one malteser I wouldnt worry, mine have found dropped maltesers in the past and been ok. xxxxxx

Thanks ladies. He is totally fine, even had solid poos since. lol Mind you i wouldnt really notice if he was acting hyper or anything cause he acts goofy all the time. haha!! I had heard that milk choc is the safest one, but it still makes you worry eh especially with these pups size too. Thanks for those links aswell Paula. I swear you need inspector gadget arms and eyes on the back of your head at time with these wee ones. lol
