Well, since my little brat has actually got a bit of padding on his ribs now, I've actually been able to go finally ahead and book him in to be neutered and chipped next Thursday (4th Aug).
When my cats have been 'done' in the past, they've come home a bit groggy, sat on their haunches and licked themselves a bit, with a look of shock followed by "Miaow, where've they gone!" and then they've mostly forgotten all about it. We've kept them indoors quietly for the rest of the day, but they've been well enough to go out again the next day and that's the end of it.
Is it the same with little dogs? Or more importantly, because Harry's testicles don't stay outside properly, I guess the vet might cut in a different place, as his testicles are sometimes in front of the scrotal sac (but still sit behind the penis and bulbus glandis, they aren't in his abdomen or not visible).
I know the vet will tell me all about his after care, but we're trying to organize some house-hunting time which means being away for a couple of days (with Harry). I don't want to go on a long trip if he's still going to be feeling unwell from his op, several days, or a week, later.
Just wondered if those of you who've had your little guys snipped had any thoughts or advice, on the matter?

Aw it'd good that he is a nice sturdier weight now so that he is safe for the op. My two boys were like chalk and cheese, Napoleon was back to normal as soon as the anaesthetic wore offand had his E-collar off in two days, Feodore was sore and in some pain for a good week, I can only put it down to the skill of the surgeon, Feo's wound on the outside was noticable more messy. I know that doesn't really help to say lol, I just mean, its hard to know what to expect, it kind of depends on what the surgeon is like.
I would reccomend a comfy cone for recovery rather than the traditional hard e-collar. (If little Harry fits one, he is very tiny isnt he)

It depends on how invasive the surgery is if they have to dig around for his testicles he's mre likely to be in pain (like a spay) anyone I know who has been done has been fine after a couple of days.
If he has any retained teeth get them pulled too

Oh I forgot to say- when you get him Microchipped, take advantage of all the info slots, like write all the info down on a peice paper and make sure the receptionist puts them ALL in. You can have like 4 phone numbers and 1 or 2 email adresses, it's good to put in your next of kins or friends incase he goes missing whilev you are on holiday or something. When I got Eva chipped, the lazy good for nothing receptionist just put in my mobile number off the computer system and nothing else and sent it off without my permission because she was too lazy to ask me what details I wanted and enter them. I was told I can change and add details on the internet- not told that it costs £20 - so don't let them fob you off with that make sure they are extra thorough!

Well my dogs are nuts and they all acted like nothing happened the next day, even Kiki whose surgery was more invasive than Gambit's. Chaos was neutered at the same time as his hernia op and he also came home and tried running about. My vets keep them in until 5pm, even if they have surgery at 11am, to make sure they're going to the toilet and feeling okay. I think every dog is different but definitely plenty of quiet and rest. I never put the cone on their head but that's because none of them were bothered about the wound. I wouldn't let him run about too much and keep him on a lead for pee's and poo's. I'm not sure if Harry's op will be more invasive, but still I'd keep him on a lead for at least a week for toileting and keep walks to a minimum. So glad that he's finally put the weight on for it! Hopefully this will calm him down and get him back to his playful *cough* obedient *cough* LOL self

I'm trying to get Jake booked in to have the snip too, i want a few days off work when hes had it done but working in boarding kennels this is the busiest time of the year and every time i think i have a few days off i get called in last minute. Im really worried that they are going to shave loads of his fur off though, like what if they shave his bum curtains off i'll be so upset! I've gotta ask about them taking a tooth out at the same time, i hope hes not going to be in too much pain.
Argh I didn't know you had to pay to update petlog details, i just checked all of mine and they all have my mums number as the blimmin main number, it needs to be mine! I told the vets to put mine first. And they have spelt my surname incorrectly. They didn't tell me how much stuff i could put on it either. Oh and Jakes sex is unknown, ha.

Hmm i think it may be too late to do anything about it now, i have emailed petlog though to ask. I dont mind them shaving him aslong as they don't shave any more than whats neccesary (as in just his balls lol) our normal vets shaved half of heidis neck off just to take the blood
