Poor Simba is going in tomorrow for a teeth clean and i'm sure he'll have some extractions,the thing that worries me apart from his age is he drinks sooo much water,so in the morning i have to take all the water up and being so hot i wonder if he'll get dehydrated if he doesn't have his morning pints

Michele I'd ask the vet about it being it's so hot the water shouldn't sit in their stomach it should be rehydrated so :s

He should be fine, as he's older vets may well put him on a drip anyway to help his kidneys cope. I expect he has had a pre op bloodscreen to check kidney function, if so, this would have picked up any issues I am sure  Hope Simba is soon feeling better once he has his teeth sorted. Positive thoughts on their way for you both x |

He did have bloodscreen a few years back,but not since.I'm going to give him a little anyway i'm sure they don't want them drinking so they don't wee while under

It's not the widdling they worry about. As with humans during surgery it's vomiting and inhaling food/fluids ... causing lung probs. x |

He did have bloodscreen a few years back,but not since.I'm going to give him a little anyway i'm sure they don't want them drinking so they don't wee while under That's not the reason, you cant have anything in your stomach when you are under anaesthesia because it can make you vomit and because you are sedated you can't vomit properly and choke on whatever you are throwing up. The only thing I can suggest is not to give any salty food or snacks to him just to make sure he doesn't get any more de-hydrated than he already is. Only thing I can think of suggesting. I hope all goes well for him. At least he will have a nice clean, healthy mouth when he wakes up. xxx |
