I didn't get her in the end sadly she wasn't very loving. Rather distant and the women had a lot of dogs:(

Lauren - my advice would be not to look on these websites. And not to get a dog from someone who is trying to charge you extra money for KC reg papers. Go on the KC website and look for breeders with puppies on there - it's still no guarantee but it's better than looking on pet selling websites, I don't trust them and I don't know any good breeders who would sell on them.
Keep us posted, good luck!!

I do Rosie. Lots of them use p4h but it's knowing who they are.
I think a few of us can recommend breeders if you tell is what you want

Yeah totally they do but the kc site is just as bad unfortunately. I think with that the best way is maybe go for members of breed clubs (it shows on kc site).
Lauren let us know what you want and I am sure between me, Louise, Rosie and Chloe we can find out what's available where. I have friends who are running puppies on and whose litters are due soon.
I do hate it when they advertise them do young. Mine are 2.5 weeks I wouldn't dream of advertising them now (not that I think anyone is going to go anywhere but with people I know lol )

Good point, KC registration proves nothing in terms of quality. Looking for Accredited Breeders will help a little, but again is no guarantee. Lauren have you been to any shows to look around and talk to the owners & breeders there? That can be a really good way of getting a feel for people and their dogs. If you let us know whereabouts you are we can point you in the direction of shows near to you. Looking for the right dog can be a bit of a lengthy process, I started researching a good 6 months before actually getting my first dog, and even after deciding that I wanted a Chihuahua I looked around and did a bit of homework before settling on who I wanted to buy from. I emailed a lot of breeders to ask a lot of questions lol, and you really can tell a LOT from the responses (or lack of) that you get.

Lauren, please listen to Sarah and Rosie. I was several months looking for Harry, and even though he was on p4h, there was a link to the breeder's website too (Sarah found him and directed me to him, btw!). The breeder was KC accredited, even though she had never bred before. Regardless, I bought him as a potential show dog and possibly to breed from, as he had so many champions in his pedigree (actually a bit one-sided I realize now!). The breeder seemed to have done all her research and was breeding not just for looks, but for health and temperament too, and obviously, I fell in love with the little scamp when I met him at 6 weeks. Even so, his little testicles never stayed down permanently in the right place and kept popping back inside some of the time, so in the end I couldn't even show him, let alone breed from him. Moral of the story? In future I will only buy from a breeder I know, or who has been personally recommended.
