Oh help
I think I'll have to ask you guys for advice as regards a pup when I do have a few pennies saved up by next March
I'm not bothered about breeding or showing - just want a healthy happy pet who will become part of our family and not see our vet more than he/she sees me!
I actually had a phone call from Chihuahua Rescue a couple of months ago about a couple of dogs that needed a home. I rang up the fosterer who lived in Manchester and they sounded perfect APART from the fact they didn't like cats at all
The fosterer had cats and she had a right carry-on keeping the two chis away from them as they just went berserk when they saw them - they had to be in separate parts of the house
Obviously not lived with cats before
It WAS a shame as Neil was happy enough to go with me to Manchester to pick them up but at the end of the day we HAVE to put our old cats first since they were there first
What sort of folk would we be if we just 'got rid' of Misty and Nina and returned them to PARRT just so we could have dogs!!! Definitely not the sort of people who should have ANY animals
I'm a member of the British Chihuahua Club so will get in touch with them when the time is right....or ask you guys if you know of anyone with pups or an older dog, perhaps a retired-from-breeding bitch or dog
We live in an upstairs flat with a courtyard as a garden. I have loads of pots and had planned to build a small raised garden to grow some turf in so my pup would have somewhere to toilet 'in a hurry'. Misty & Nina are indoor cats (neither want to go out) and they have litter trays and I've heard of folks using these for small breeds. I've always been paranoid that a breeder would not let me have a pup (or a rescue place let us have an older dog)
because we live in a flat and don't have a garden as such. But where we live we have open countryside and fields and riverside walks within two minutes walk and, in the car, the coast is only four miles away
When we had Tina HER comfort was my main priority and she would have an hour at the coast on the beach before I went to work (and she went to bed with Neil!). As soon as I got home I would dump any bags etc at the door and take her straight out for a toilet. I would then grab a quick bite to eat before taking her for a 'proper' walk of between 1.5 and 2hrs. Then home to feed Neil before he went to work, after which we would go out once more for another hour. Then relaxing together on the sofa until bedtime when I would take Tina out for a last short walk to toilet. She then spent the night on the bed snuggled up with me.....or as whippets tend to do, hogging 90% of the bed!
Days off, three days a week, would be spent out on proper walks where we got the maps out and explored the coastline and valleys and Cheviot hills.
Do you think, honestly, whether a breeder or rescue place would hold the fact that we live in a flat against us.......or am i just being a paranoid moo?
Neither of us has a passport as we like to holiday in caravans or cottages in the UK and Tina went everywhere with us....as will our chi's
To us the flat is 'just' somewhere to keep our 'stuff' and sleep and we both like to be outdoors at every given opportunity whatever the weather
