I was looking at the package of SC lamb and it states that the minimum protein is 13%. I checked my ZP venison bag and it has a minimum of 34%. That's a huge difference! Am I understanding it correctly???

Probably because the ZP is dehydrated and the s&c is raw (you bought the raw, not the freeze dried, right?).
That's why kibble has a higher protein content than raw as well.. less moisture.

Exactly what Kelly said. You have to compare apples to apples... raw to raw.... dehydrated to dehydrated. Raw meat (chicken for example) is usually around 17% protein. But when you remove al the moisture, it is concentrated and therefore a higher number.

Okay, makes sense! Thanks Tracy and Kelly. 13% sounds like such a small amount to me though, plus it has veggies. They do like it a lot!

Its 95% meat/bone/organ and only 5% fruits/veggies so its a pretty low ratio of fruits and veggies...yeah people don't realize that a kibble boasting of 30+% of protein is astonishingly high and not necessarily good for the dog's kidneys ... the raw model protein percent is really just what dogs need so I never understand some w/ really high percentages. That said, Ziwi is dehydrated and I feel should be fed w/ water. When you add water you get a more closely represented "raw" meal;.
