I grew up with Persian cats. My mum had 3, 2 queens and a Tom. The Tom was the most beautiful gentle cat I've ever known. He was show quality but we never bred or showed from him in the end. I think they just turned into members of the family. He reached a grand old age as well, 18! He died about 5 years ago now but it was heartbreaking at the time as he had always been there ever since I could remember. Their coats need daily grooming otherwise they will get very matted. Breathing problems can also be an issue due to their flat faces. Mine started to snore as they got older.

A lady I know lost her rescue persian to breathing issues, he died on way to vet. Horrible I wonder if some lines are worse than others, some people will always breed to extreme unfortunately

My mom had to flat faced Persians. Both, must have came from bad breeders at the time...because one only lived about 2 years...she had an enlarged heart, & the Vet said most likely from inbreeding....it was heartbreaking...she was such a sweet kitty who didn't deserve such a fate. She also had another who had a lot of health issues, & because his face was flat...he had a lot of sinus/allergy/eye problems as well. He only lived about 7 years. Mom has learned her lesson since….it’s just hard to think that people can be so cold, & heartless when it comes to cash.....& screw the animal.

Yes Chimama, poor breeding has a lot to answer for and in the UK Persian cats have, or many seem to have considerable health issues, like many dog breeds alas.
Poor cats dtying at only 2 and 7, no age at all, my moggies lived welll into their teens, oldest 19. Yes the bad breeders have a lot to answer for, they hsould all be health testing and not breeding to extreme.
