Nope I've never had any cats. I love the look of some of the exotic cats like Siamese and Singapura (They are the chihuahua of the cat world lol). The breeder I got Eva from bred Siamese cats and the one I saw was a Beauty!
How much do Persians go for? Just out of curiousity, I knwo nothing about cats.

Not sure ... never looked *blushes* for pet quality from a good breeder about £400 They do have health issues, so if buying MUST have clear certs form parents, kidneys and heart.

I used to have Persians. A lovely cream boy with big amber eyes that we rescued from a 'Persian' rescue in Devon and a super stunning cream colourpoint boy who I bought to show and won just the most huge rosettes you have ever seen. They are no longer of this world but Boris and Norman- with his stunning sky blue eyes will never be forgotten along with the awful matting that they are so prone to and for this reason are best suited as house cats or with limited outdoors eg small safe garden as I also found them to be not very street wise compared to your average moggy and would have not run away from dogs, mean kids etc. They can be undershot due to the flatter face and some have breathing problems but best to do your homework and find a good breeder. I used to have Burmese cats also who are an oreintal breed and remind me in character and cheek to a couple of my Chi's but thats what I love about them.

Never had one and I must admit, I'm not much of a cat fan but I've always loved the look of Persian cats and also the Siamese.

Thank's everyone millymolly, nice to hear of your experience with them! Yes, their coats can be an issue and I have known a few rescue ones that had to have their's shaved off because owners could not cope. Not everyne is prepared to deal with the matting if it happens as you were. I guess it's for this reason they are not as popular now? Maybe one day we will have one, but a lot of thought will have to go into it. x

I did find the matting hard to cope with. I'd had Poms and Shelties which I also showed so thought I'd cope with the Persian coat ok but because it was fur rather than hair like the dogs it used to look like candyfloss when it matted. Although it never got terrible as they were groomed daily. As they got older and went out to play in the garden they would come in with big knots so I used to clip them shorter with the dog clippers in the summer showing how layed back they can be bless them, they would just lay on their sides non stop purring. I dont think you could get near many cats with a pair of clippers unless sedated. I fancy an Exotic 'the shorthaired version of the Persian if I have another cat.

Yes, it's got to be along term commitment. I know someone who has bought a Persian kitten and to be honest I despair, maybe if I wait long enough, I'll end up with it ... someone will for sure, they won't keep it
