What is the concentration on your bottle Paula? It's really easy to get confused between EFA and DHA EPA, etc. You are aiming for 20mg of EPA per pound. So you want a product that delivers about 100mg of EPA. Lots of fish oil is labeled at 1000mg. But that is misleading, as it's usually 1000mg of EFA (essential fatty acids) rather than the EPA which is typically around 400. dog-swim.com/supplements/fishoil/So if you used an over the counter product like this one .... www.naturesbounty.com/product/004461It would deliver 400mg of EPA per capsule. So you could split one capsule between your dogs and they would be getting 200mg of DHA each. If you did that every other day, that would meet the requirement for recommended dosage. However, fish oil can be dosed at up to 6 times the recommended value for particular conditions (eczema, allergies, etc.) so there is a wide range of dosage that would work. For just maintenance, I'd probably do the regular therapeutic dosage, but if they were stressed (with medication or medical needs), then I'd go up on the oil.

Turns out Feo is allergic. I feel so bad after giving it him 2x a week for so long thinking I was helping his bad skin, and the whole time I was making him worse. Don't even give it Eve anymore as they eat eachother's chews. I was gonna say I will bring u my bottle to LCC Sarah- I have a huuuge bottle of Grizleys but just checked and it's best before date is passed

Thanks so much for your reply, Tracy. I really appreciate it and thank you for the links as well. I'm currently finishing up a bottle of grizzly salmon oil and the bottle is rather vague info so I'm not really sure of the answers. Once I'm done with it I'm going back to capsules. When I found out that the bottled oil can go rancid very quickly and should be kept in the freezer, I went to the plain old human fish oil capsules! Easier and probably better quality control. Cheaper too.

My salmon oil says good for 6 months from opening, is that not right? Have a sniff. If it smelly overly fishy, then it might be going rancid. I had no idea that the fish oils go bad so easily. Most people who don't go thru a bottle quickly store it in the freezer and have a very small bottle in the fridge that they refill. I didn't know that so thought I'd pass it on.
