Ok, so I thought I would kick off the product reviews.
Product Name: Coatex Aloe and Oatmeal Shampoo.
This is a shampoo designed to soothe irritated itchy skin. I had months of problems with Feodore having dermatitis, he had chewed all his legs raw and lost fur, after lots of drugs from the vets not working, I decided to put on some of my own colloidal oat eczema cream (Aveeno) on his irritated patches, the vet and I noticed that his red raw skin was more soothed and starting to heal. The more he chewed the more irrritated the skin, the more it would itch and he ended up in a vicious cycle.
She suggested Coatex shampoo to me as it was oat based and designed for allergy prone/ sensitive/ irritated skin. It has no perfumes or colourings, which are unnecessary irritants- which is a plus. I bathed Feo in a generous ammount of this shampoo and found that his skin was soothed.
Pros-
-No perfumes, pearly chemicals, colours that many other shampoos have. Even if your dog isn't allergic to these, once their skin is irritated and broken, they can cause problems and discomfort/ irritation.
-Surfactants did not seem too harsh like other dog shampoos.
-Smelled fine
-Huge bottle, it should last a long for a chihuahua.
-Oatmeal is moisturising and soothing without being oily, so the coat looks fine, not greasy.
-It still does the job of a shampoo and cleanses the fur.
- A better route to go down than the steroid creams offered to me as the alternative. I think it is best to try the options with the fewest side affects first.
Price is steep, but you either need this product or you don't. If your dog is experiencing dermatits/ skin itchies then I reccomend this product to soothe the skin and/or compliment other treatments. If your dog does not have any skin problems whatsoever then I don't reccoment it for you, because it is expensive and you can get other mild unperfumed shampoos for less that will do you fine.
Cons- Price is a slight downside: I paid £15 from the vet, but you possibly cheaper online, and get a smaller size to try. I got a massive bottle because I was deperate and it was all they had in on the day. I wouldn't normally spend this much on a normal shampoo but this was method of treatment for his skin.
Where you bought it: Vet, but it is available without prescription so can be brought online.
I rate it 4 stars out of 5.
