I know this is a chi forum but I run a guinea pig rescue too and tonight went out to a house and OMG what a sight.
The man there has about 80 guinea pigs all out of control breeding! He has them segregated into boys and girls but clearly it's not working. There were a large number of pregnant females, about 20 new babies, then lots of teenage guineas and about 30 males!
He has fashined housing for them out of all kinds of old stuff, wardrobes, old storage benches etc which was very inventive but unsafe and didn't allow them to be caught.
He did say that they were being picked off in the nights by foxes, cats etc eeeeeek. Poor things.
I only had the facility to take 5 and one of them was a heavily pregnant mum. She looks due any time - I wonder how many back to back litters she's had so far!
Anyway I have had to call on help from other rescues to try and get this lot all rescued, this isn't a job for 1 or even 2 rescues. My facility is small - I have been over my resources before and it's scary and expensive!
Hopefully the others will be able to take some more and I can see this being ongoing for a while!
Strange evening

Oh gosh how awful!!! There's a hamster rescue near me my friend got hers from there where they have to donate a nominal fee for THRM. What will you do with them? I'll hold onto the ones I take for a minimum of 2 weeks as a quarantine period. Females of breeding age longer probably 5 or 6 weeks to see if they are pregnant. When ready I rehome them. I am quite well known in Cardiff and vets, rspca etc will recommend the rescue. We ask for a vlountary donation for them - some people are tight and some not. But donations NO WHERE NEAR cover the costs so I have scaled it back this year as I am out of work due to personal circumstances this year and just can't afford it. Hence why I only took in 5 tonight. We check homes to make sure that the accomodation is right and they have done their research on how to look after them. Here is my website www.cardiffguineapigrescue.co.uk What do you think?

That's terrible, nothing changes Wish I was nearer and I would offer to take a couple, foster and get local rescue back up ( they will neuter, heath check) for them. I'm in the North Of England, but pm me if I can help if anyone organising guinea train up this way! x Good luck! x

There's a large local rescue I asked to help going today and taking all the girls. The pregnant one I brought here had her babies yesterday, 3 beautiful little bundles. I had forgotten how cute brand new babies are!
All doing well so far.
