Rez is in today for neutering (before you ask he's 5 1/2 months old and I KNOW not everyone agrees with it before 6 months) He was checked over - all good. Weighed just under 5lb Anyway just had a call to say he's out of the op BUT something happened to him under anaesthetic. The nurse said she can't tell me what as she wasn't in the room and that my vet has gone to lunch!!!!! They want to keep him longer than usual for observation too I asked is he out of the woods - she said he's coming round as normal after but that she didn't know if he was out of the woods because basically she knows nothing. OHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm worried. My poor lad. I came away all happy and secure in that he was fine - strong, fit and healthy. What's happened??? Anyway apparently I can find out about 3.30pm what's happened to him and what happens next. I'm livid that the vet didn't hang about to ring me himself!!! Do you think he's not worried to have gone to lunch? I trust my vet too - he's (I thought) a good guy.

Did you have pre op bloods done? He's a big boy so size is on his side.
Personally I wouldn't worry if the vet has gone to lunch then he is ok... If it was serious he wouldn't of gone or you would of been told. When will you find out???

No pre-op bloods. My husband rang back and spoke to the nurse who was in the op. Apparently when the anaesthetic reached the cricial point/ mass or whatever - (when it's at the strongest point) his breathing and heart rate started goingup and down - all over the shop and they had to tweak it to be able to manage him and complete what they had started. She said they need to observe him for 4 - 6 hours and he can probably come him at 6pm when they close. She said itsometimes happens in toy breeds. Yes Sarah he is a good size and once again I am pleased not to have a tiny tiny one.

I sobbed my heart outwhen I sent Pixel for spaying and got my hubby to take the day off and we went out and i had a stiff drink waiting to hear. But I thought Rez was different, all strong and solid and neutering is less invasive than a spay. I'm gutted and my heart will be in my mouth till I have him home. I keep wondering if they have him on a heat pad - he's quite cold at the moment. And I want them to watch his blood sugar as he didn't have brekkie. I just wish I knew more
