Bryco does not handle anesthesia well at ALL. Both times he's been under the vets struggled to bring him back. I don't say that to scare you but just to advise you to be cautious in the future w/ little Rez. I know if Bryco has to go under again I may lose him so its my choice to avoid it at all costs. Fortunately he doesn't need it but one vet wanted to give him a dental just because he'd turned 1 and that was what they did -- I said NO WAY! Anyway, I am glad to hear your fella pulled out of it, I wonder what kind of anesthetic they used?

oh thank goodness he is OK! Anesthesia can be tricky. This is a good reminder for us all that even though a surgery might be 'routine' there is always that small risk that something can go haywire. I'm so happy he is OK now. Please keep us posted on him!!

You guys are scaring me I know it's easy to say but try not to worry. Pixel has been spayed and had her LP op and she's handled the anaesthetic with no problem both times. I have had at least 20 guinea pigs neutered and NO complications. My vet was quite shaken up - he said although it's not 'rare' it's been a LONG time since anything like that happened. And even though he did go they didn't need to use any adrenaline or anything like that to bring him back, he came back on his own. Yes Kristi I will be avoiding the anaesthetic at all costs for him - he's just not the same as Pixel. Funny because in every other way he's a strong little guy.

Lisa -- it might be the type too, but Bryco almost went from gas and from injectable... so IMO that's enough! He's not a sturdy little dude like Rez tho. I'd just do what you can to keep Rez's teeth clean and healthy so dentals aren't needed and the rest, well, I don't know what you can do... hope nothing goes wrong I guess!! Obviously there is something in your little guy's make-up that didn't mesh well w/ the anesthesia...but hopefully he never needs it again!

While no anaesthetic is without some element of risk, whatever the animal/human most are administered without problem. I have known a cat die not during anaesthesia but shortly aftrewards ... not my own. I have also known a pregnant mum sadly die during an elective caesarian section when I was an RN in SCBU ... a friends sister But thankfully these things are VERY rare. In theatre while doing an anaesthesia course we had a guy in for emergency surgery who had arrested a couple of years prior in theatre .... we were all He sailed through without a blip on a monitor So while vet's will take special care with animals who have had probs in the past, there is every chance they will be fine.
