It recently occured to me that in my last litter of whippets 3 of my 4 males were born by ceasarian and all had retained testicles. The male that was born normally has 2 descended testicles.
I know chryptorchism is inherited but since my litter has been born I have heard of 2 other litters born by ceasarian which has contained males suffering from the problem.
I know this subject is taboo in a lot of breeds with breeders not willing to admit they have had litters with males with it but it occured to me could it be possible that there is some sort of connection.
I was told a survey was done I think in Sweden some years ago on human babies and that showed that there was a higher percentage of baby boys with retained testicles that were born by ceasarian than in baby boys born normally.
It would never have given this a thought if it hadn't have been that I had 4 males 1 born normally that had 2 testicles and 3 by ceasarian with 1 testicle.

This is very very interesting. Are they totally retained or just not dropped? Sometimes you can massage them Down. I wonder how there is a connection being that you would expect them to be formed previously to birth hmmm v v interesting

One had none at all one had just the one and the pick of the litter Rocky is still with me as I will run him on untill he is 12 months. I thought the other day I felt the other one on Rocky but have since not been able to feel anything.
The new owners of all the pups are aware of the retained testicles the 2 other males were not registered and were sold as pets both are being castrated. All the bitch owners know too.
I have also emailed the RCVS and asked if any research has been done on the occurance in males born by ceasarian.

I had a Chihuahua way back when that was born naturally & he had one that didn't drop....so when they neutered him, they corrected the problem.

The RCVS has replied and said they don't have records for such things and best to contact the VSA I think it is.
I am now waiting for them to get back to me.
