Apologies if this has already been posted! Here is an article about the number of small dogs that were bought as fashion items, now being found in rescues. There is a Chihuahua shown and Chihuahua crosses, badly bred Pom and a Yorkie, those these I guess are the tip of the iceberg and a problem which can only get worse "This week, the Dogs Trust — the country’s largest dog welfare charity — revealed the last year had seen more than 400 so-called handbag dogs being dumped at their doors, a 44 per cent increase." And that's just one, albeit large, rescue! They will never be in the state staffs are. There are more chavs than socialites. Shame but it was bound to happen Yes indeed, though I wouldn't say it's only "socialites" that are buying up and breeding Chihuahuas Thankfully at the moment things aren't as desperate as they are in the United States with unwanted Chihuahuas. Poor dogs are in kill shelters and many in a terrible state, my heart bleeds At least here in the UK, they are easily adopted out and I doubt any pts as unwanted. At the moment at least A terrible situation. I think (and yes, of course it's only my opinion) the Chihuahua will go the same way as the Yorkshire Terrier in the UK over the next 5 or 10 years, ten a penny and one of the more popular breed/crosses in rescue, then hopefully their popularity will wane, while another Toy breed takes it's place. As far as Staffs go, I doubt we will ever see such an abused and bady treated dog again (by bad owners), but who knows, Greyhounds are treated and disposed of with much the same vigour, but for different reasons
