Sarah, yeah it has a lot of non-species appropriate ingredients including rice, flax, soy. So that would make it a no for many people. If a dog tolerates these OK, then I think it's an OK supplement. It certainly has been around for a long time and has a good track record, unlike other supplements which seem to come and go.
Missy, I am kind of a supplement junky.
I use salmon oil, krill oil, coconut oil and rotate through those on a weekly basis. (I usually give the oils 3 times a week). I also give a 200iu vitamin E at the same time to help absorption when giving the oils.
In addition, I use a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement. The jury is out on whether these works as preventatives. But I figure our dogs are small and easily injured with their tiny bodies and joints so I hedge my bets and give it regularly, even though Brody does not have LP. I'm currently using Glycoflex III (mainly because I got a great deal on it). I have Hylox in the cabinet, but he doesn't like it as well.
I also like to rotate Missing Link Prescription Strength with Nupro. Both of these are multi-use vitamin/mineral supplements. They do also contain plant derivatives so some people wouldn't want to use them as their dogs don't tolerate those.
Are all these supplements needed? Probably not. But they don't hurt and since I feed a raw diet, I do like that extra insurance that I am meeting all his nutritional needs.
In addition to prey model raw, he also gets ZiwiPeak and Stella and Chewy's on a regular basis. He also gets some canned, mainly BG's line by Merrick and Ziwi canned, along with whatever looks interesting when I'm out shopping. He likes the Evo 95% canned meats occasionally. He LOVES green tripe in the cans so I like to have that on hand as well. Tripett is the brand we are currently using, although I did buy a can of BG tripe that he liked as well.
So yeah. I like supplements.
