Do any of you feed canned food? If so, what brands are best?

I have used evo 95% meat, tripett, BG, Ziwi. I have stayed away from Evangers and Merrick just out of personal preference. (They've had multiple recalls and Evangers was in trouble recently for labeling a formula as DUCK but it was dna tested and it had no duck in it. So I don't trust them).
I have also used canned cat food. It usually doesn't have veggies and that is a problem with many canned foods for dogs. I have a canned lamb daily cuisine from Ziwi for cats and one for dogs in front of me. They are almost identical. There's a little difference in the vitamin/minerals that are added. (Cats need more taurine). But as far as the meat portion - they are almost exactly the same.
I would not feed a cat canned food exclusively of course. But for variety and palatability, I do use it. I also like the smaller cans! Those big huge cans aren't made for toy dogs. I usually split a can into fourths in baggies and then freeze. When I use canned, it's about a tablespoon a day, so freezing works fine.

I really haven't used canned but we did start giving the Fromm canned to Kimber. She is a pig and eat anything but I feel like it is better nutritionally than regular dry food...I tried the Ziwi stuff once but my guys really didn't like it. They LOVE Tripett though, I keep that on hand to keep my picky eaters eating...i.e. Leah since everyone else is a voracious pig LOL but yeah, I don't have a lot of experience w/ canned food because I generally just use fresh raw meats or cooked meats. I do keep some Ziwi canned on the emergency shelf w/ a box of THK. If we get snowed in, there's no way I will be able to get out to get them food, I go to the store about 2x a week for them lol.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE canned ZiwiPeak! Havne't used it in a bit though. We've also tried Tripett which I liked as well.
Oh & we did try one we got from a vender at woofstock but I can't remember the name. It looked fancy...like chicken soup. LOL But it was grain free & the ingredients look quite good. Pups loved it too. Wish I could remember the name of it...

I use the canned ZP to put in their Kong treats sometimes. I also have used blue wilderness, it is grain free as well. I never fed it exclusively though.

For those of you that buy canned Ziwi and Tripett do you buy it at your local pet store? Or online? I'm considering picking up a couple of cans, but I'm not sure my local pet shop will have it. I have a speciality shop that would be it's a bit of a drive. I just feel it might work better for Roo with getting her supplements in it. I don't know why but I feel oddly apprehensive to use it. I have never really given them canned food so I'd probably just add a little bit to start. Do you think nutritionally the canned Ziwi or Trippet is pretty good? Sometimes I worry about what funky stuff might be in there but I know it must be nutritionally better than kibble which I don't feed.
Tracy - So you mean you would only give a half tablespoon total with nothing else at each meal? That seems like so little, no?

I would definitely prefer the ziwi over the tripett. The tripett is tripe. Stinky. But dogs love it. So it can be good for disguising things. But.... the last can I got of tripett had a bunch of waxy fat all over the top of it. I scraped that off and scooped out a teaspoon of it and it had almost a grainy, sandy consistency. It was kind of gritty if that makes sense. Now maybe the cow it came from had eaten sand??? I don't know, but I thought it was kind of gross so I threw it out.
I think the quality control in Ziwi is far superior. Since your kids are used to that, it shouldn't cause any problems at all.
I use it for supplements also. So if I give a tablespoon, I mix in his salmon oil and glucosamine or whatever supplement I am giving. He will lick coconut oil off a spoon so I don't add that. The others I usually have to mix with canned.
