Hollie apparently there has always been a brindle dominant gene in chi's -- it just isn't very popular per se, and is only in limited lines of chis (remember bigger gene pool here, IDK about UK). Most people don't breed for it intentionally because its not a pattern that looks very good on small dogs so the people breeding for t are more interested in color than the overall quality of the dog usually. That's a blanket statement, of course, I have seen some really nice brindles actually, but no many.

That FB group is OK, but kind of annoying. A lot of pet people breeding substandard dogs and wanting to know what colors they will get. I will look past it though and try to learn!!! Crazy how one gal had a lavender dam bred to a SOW and had 4 black and tans! What?! Crazy how that works.

I bred a chocolate tri on white to a dilute chocolate male (chocolate from around 4 gen back) and got tris and sables brodysmum! It's all very interesting v impressive frenchie too! That situation is the same with British bulldogs. Tri colours or blacks are rare and not shown as they don't do well
Personally I don't like brindle on a chihuahua.

It's ok...I'm' plugging Maya's ears!! (though I don't really care for brindles either....they have a "dirty" look IMO. LOL)
This is all very interesting for sure. I think I'm on that group but haven't looked around too much. The spotted info is really interesting though...

Heather, I personally LOVE Mari's color and the white just sets it off. I think she is a beautiful little redhead and very unique. I love Maya's color too. They are my favorites out of your bunch! (Besides Lulu who is beautiful as well.) Now I feel bad, like I'm leaving out Milo and Matilda and Maxie and Marley. I'm not! They are cute as well! But I love Mari's red coat the best.

See I think brindle CAN be really pretty on a chi. I have seen some really cute ones of late. Its just that unless it is a really striking brindle with irish markings, they do look 'blah'. You can get a sabled brindle, which I think is what Maya is, Heather. That kind of makes them look 'dirty'. But if you get a brindle w/o sable it can be a really fun pattern.
My friend has the CUTEST little black chi. It has brindle ONLY on it's legs. It is sooooooo cute. She is pitch black otherwise, and her name is "Pantera". I love her. And I typically don't like blacks! I will get some pictures of her in Feb at the show, she is a smooth coat girl and part of Charm's competition (which sucks because she is a very very well bred little gal!).

No....I don't mind Mayas color so much. I really dislike choc brindles. I actually kinda like blue brindles. Maya is registered blue brindle but she's not. I probably only don't mind her color because she's mine. I can't wait to see the pic of that little black on Kristi--sounds interesting! And yeah...I think the only reason I really went for Maya is because she had white on her. The Irish markings make any dog flashy. Of course I like my white markings anyway. And yeah Tracy, Mari is a cool color! She looks kinda "bla" right now as she's blowing her coat so she's not as shiney & RED as she usually is. Makes me sad. LOL

Oops sorry Heather, I forgot about Maya! I hope I didn't offend you or anything! I have always thought Maribelle was sooo pretty with her markings and colour and I wanted one that looked like her one day....then I saw a photo of Eva and had to have her
