Had hubby pick some up yesterday as the store had just gotten it in & the pups need something to get them through until their next big bag of ZP comes in. For anyone who doesn't know it's a no grain freeze dried food. No potatoes either (chicpeas are used instead). Number one...I thought it was suppose to be cheaper. $37 for a 3lb bag--guess I misunderstood! Granted I had him get the Rabbit formula which is about $10 more than the chicken formula of Pureformance but if I was going to use it it would be to add in another protein source they don't already get.
Anyway, I just fed the pups their first meal. It's much like THK but more "oatmealy" in texture & looks. Reminds me like a dinner version of oatmeal. haha Smells ok too... Seems to be more chunks of meat in it than THK but the chunks are larger...too large IMO for the Chi's.
Good reviews from the peanut gallery--everyone scarfed it down but I don't necessarily have the most picky dogs. Lulu was actually trying to scavenge from some of the others as they were still eating. haha
I can't say how they'll process it. I have always added in new foods "cold turkey" & they've never once had any issues with any of the raw foods so I don't suspect any but one never knows. Matilda already has a bit of indigestion from it though which isn't unusual for her on certain types of foods.
I'm already figuring I'll probably not buy another bag....at least not regularly. With the different "issues" of all my dogs ZP seems to work the best for ALL of them which is important being as I don't have the time or money right now to customize 7 raw diets for each of them. I did see ZP now has rabbit canned food...hoping maybe they'll make a dry formula but not sure what the price would be on that as the canned was a bit more expensive than the other it seemed.
Anywho, rambled enough. Just thought I'd jot this all down for anyone interested in this type of food. I'd definitely recommend it...just not sure we'll use it.
And a pic for anyone curious...
