Argh just got a text from a school friend I haven't heard from for ages, her dad breeds Shar Peis and an elderly friend has got ill and he is looking after her elderly chihuahua. She said they can not keep it becuase they have lots of intact shar pei males and they are worried for it, it is having to be kept on it's own away from them and is very stressed out, so she wants to know if I can look after it.
I don't really want to permenantly take on an elderly dog right now (not actually allowed another dog here at all) but it is tugging on my heart strngs thinking of this poor old chi, who has been seperated from tis owner and is surrounded by a load of huge dogs. I have to go and have a talk with my parents, IDK much about the dog, don't even know sex, age, whether its intact or will pee in the hosue etc, wether it will be agressive to my dogs, I am going to try and take it though and look after it, check its health is ok if it needs a vet etc, and rehome it via bcc or someone else that knows what they are doing!

Still don't know much more, other than it's a bitch and is old, they said that it's owner said its a "teacup" so I am guessing isnt that clued up on Chihuahuas, but I'm not sure what is going on with the owner, I know that the owner is old and has gone into hospital, but I dont know them or their situation, and wether they will ever be comign out of hospital (sad to say but i think that might be the situation)
My friend's dad is going to bring it round some time in the next few days I think, because he lives about 40 mins away and I can't get up there, then we can work out whats best for this poor dog. I'm not mad at him or my friend for putting on me or anything,m they just asked me because I'm the only person they know that know chihuahuas and knows what is best to do for the dog. The Shar Pei breeder said that in the past week, someone has returned a dog to them that they bred, and it has been abused and is unpredicatble, and they are still trying to figure out the best thing to do with that dog, so with them is definately not the best place for a little old chi right now.
I will fill you in when I know more.

I'm glad you are taking her Hollie, even if it's only temporary. She sounds like she needs a constant in her life! Hopefully you can assess her and then place her with another family or maybe you could contact a rescue and see if there is anyone waiting for an adult chi?

It is always so sad when elderly people can no longer care for their pets. I need to remember to one day have a plan for who my pets will go to when I can no longer care for them. I know a pet can be the greatest joy in an older person's life so I'd never say they shouldn't have them when they are getting on in years but its good to have things set up for your pet when you go.
Let us know how it goes with the little old chi-chi.

I hope everything goes well with the old little chi. Such a sad situation, I'll bet she is so confused...
