Someone on FB just posted this on 'The Benefit of Raw Feeding's profile. Just thought I'd share as its an excellent post with a fantastic visual: Dogs have a simple, capacious, single chambered and highly acidic stomach capable of destroying pathogenic bacteria. The dog’s stomach pH is 1 whereas the human stomach pH is 4 to 5. Because animal matter is easy to digest, the small intestine, (where absorption of food molecules takes place) is short in comparison to plant eating animals such as cows or sheep. Dogs have a short large intestine and small caecum. The caecum is a pouch between large and small intestine for fermenting vegetation. The more cellulose ingested by the species, the larger the caecum.
