I have ZERO idea what posts or forums you are talking about so I may be WAY out of line in what I am going to add.
I am a pet owner. Period. No breeding, no showing. I would have no idea/education/experience so have no business being involved in either!
Here is what I thought. I thought it was all about purebred and AKC was a guarantee of a well built, healthy dog who was a good example of the breed. I did. I was WRONG!!
In retrospect, I can see that while Hope is from an AKC hobby breeder (she does not show) she may as well be a puppy farm. Hope's litter mate has just had her second litter. She and Hope are just 18 months old. It breaks my heart.
Oh, another thing I thought. That all Chis were about 5 pounds. Every Chi we have had were so size was not even anything I considered. All of Hope's litter mates were the same size so I never even thought about her being larger or smaller. Seriously, I didn't! It was not until we took Hope back for her last puppy shots and she was 3/4 of a pound smaller than her remaining litter mates.
We almost got her sister (who has now been bred twice) and while I wish we could have saved her back to back breeding, I would not want to have and love another dog with issues like Hope's.
Ruby is the prime example of a great, reputable AKC show breeder selling a dog that while bred to standard did not turn out that way. Beautiful gait, nice top line, perfect mouth. Ears that will not stand made her an "oops" and perfect as a pet. Her price was pet reflective versus the breeder's typical show dog prices.
Eden, while AKC, is from a breeder who really does not know enough about what she is doing but is as sweet as she can be. She does not over breed her dogs but she, frankly, is just not as educated as she should be.
If we ever got another, the dog would come from Ruby's breeder. I have learned enough now, here and also with a boat load of help/advice/guidance from Tracy, Kristi and Heather than I am now a better educated pet owner.
There is still a bundle that I do not know but am grateful for what I have learned!
