I'm curious if any of you have heard of the herb Wu Shen San for alopecia? My vet (she's a holistic vet) is recommending I give it a go for Roo's alopecia. Has anyone heard of it? Any thoughts if you have?

I have not. Hope gets Xiao Yao Wan and Wei Qi Booster. The first for anxiety hoping to help her tummy issues and the latter to help boost her own immune system against the growths sh continues to develop.
The first has made a noticeable difference in her tolerance of the other girls. I have seen no negative side effects from the Chinese herbs.

Thanks so much for your reply, Karen. I'm so glad to hear that you haven't seen any negative side effects from the ones you are using. My vet told me they are very safe, but I'm always a little leery to try something new. Glad the ones you are using have helped Hope! My vet has ordered the Wu Shen San for me, I'll be interested to see how it goes. I've had some success with the missing link, but my vet seems to think this herb will help further. Here's hoping!

I definitely will, Tracy. I'm still waiting for the herb to come in at my vets, but I'm anxious to start it and see how it goes. I'll take before pics of Roo's back where she has the strip of missing hair and cross my fingers. It's filled in some on her back since starting the missing link, but it seems at a standstill now. Where Missing Link has really helped is the rest of her coat in general. It's definitely thicker and much healthier looking. And she has more hair on her head now too. I'm very happy about that. I'm honestly skeptical that anything can ever truly help color dilute alopecia, the bare spot on her back seems there to stay, but my vet doesn't seem to entirely agree and thinks it's at least worth a try so I guess we'll see.

Hope goes to her Holistic vet in early June.
If my 47 year old memory will allow, I'll inquire with her about herbs for hair loss. She has 30+ years experience in trad medicine and now this.
She was honest enough to tell me that she believed neither Ruby nor Eden would benefit from her care so I trust her to tell it straight.
I told her that if I saw ANY change in stool that I'd promptly be stopping the herbs. Have not seen any and she has been on them daily since January.

It was awesome, Sarah. From a bundle of paperwork and a bunch of questioning, she shared which of the "Chinese elements" each girl was. It is based on temperament, responses to a variety of things and more.
If you knew me, you'd know that I am Type A, VERY black and white and not into a lot of non-traditional ways. I was shocked this was so interesting and SO accurate.
Hope-Wood element. Also Type A, uptight, rigid. Ruby-Water element. Mellow, flowy, timid. Eden-Fire element. Wild, impulsive, loud (okay, and RANDOM!).
She looked at me, shook her head and said,"Wow. You have quite the mixed bag". That was the MOST believable thing I heard! haha!
