I don't know if any of you remember but I was having terrible problems with Rez being dog aggressive on walks. I have been doing lots of work with him, always taking small pieces of chicken and getting him to focus on me and ignore the dog, or letting him sniff the dog if he's being calm enough and if he gets super aggressive walking him in the other direction.
Well it's been going okay - he IS improving.
But the real improvement came when I started letting him off the lead on some walks. When he's off the walk he is amazing! he runs over to dogs for a sniff, or avoids in a way that's comfortable for him, he may even come to me to pick him up. but he's NEVER hostile off lead. It's amazing so far.
He doesn't run off, his recall is spot on and he's a little star off lead too.
I have been pretty scared at times esp if a dog runs up to him and it's much bigger - but he either takes it in his stride and sniffs or goes in the opposite direction. It's been brilliant - really made walks a pleasure rather than a stressful event.

Oh that's brilliant news! So glad Rez is coming along. Sounds like all of your hard work is paying off. Also, may I be cheeky and request some new pics?

We went to the beach today (not Pixel though - she's limping slightly - maybe from over walking) and my husband took some pics of rez - i'll share them if they are any good. He's such a lush boy - I love my Rez!

No I take the 4 of them out myself most of the time - summer hols will be different though will be me and the kids taking them out. Bella (rescue) is getting some one to one lead walks with my husband to teach her lead manners - she's a terrible puller. She's learning to heel. I have been working on recall for a long time - and used to be petrified letting the chi's off the lead but it's getting to be the norm. Pixel is am angel - she walks to hell, she goes off sniffing but she never gets very far away from me at all - few feet at most. Rez is braver and will chase birds and things but honestly his recall is so good that he comes back if i call. It helps that I have a treat bag with me at all times and it always has chicken in it - it's a good reason to come back! I am feeling the stress ebb away on walks because the DA used to really get to me - turns out he was just worried (which I knew) and giving him the control to say hello or not made a difference. I do leave him on the lead until we get somewhere i consider safe and on those times we distract away with chicken and if it doesn't work we just walk off a quite a pace. I'm pleased!

I need to work on recall with my lot! With the Olympics going on we haven't been able to get to the park or the marshes as they've closed off all the footpaths Can't wait until it's all over and done with so we can get back to our routines. I prefer walking them on grass than pavement.
