As of last Saturday we are officially a chihuahua family! Well, my son (5 yrs) is actually the one who kept pushing for a chi. My husband insisted on a small breed, but had no preference. I just wanted to rescue, but couldn't find anything I liked at the local shelters. However, this little guy popped up on one of my facebook groups. His mommy was dumped off one of the local indian reservations here in Oklahoma. She turned up pregnant and the lady who rescued her was looking for good forever homes for the pups. I told her I was interested and after checking us out she said she thought we'd be a perfect fit. We believe our puppy is full chi. He was 1.06lbs at the first vet checkup at roughly 6 weeks of age. So.... here's Ocho and my husband who doesn't like dogs. Right... I caught him baby talking to the puppy the other day. I'm needing some help with potty training. Also, wondering what his official color is? And if he's more apple head or deer head? And will the ears perk up? He was 7 weeks on Monday.

He's very sweet. The rescue shouldn't of let you have him that young really. It's hard to tell what he is at 6 weeks old really as he will change immensely.. His head is domed so the term apple He's red and white Welcome to the forum btw With toilet training depends if u want to train him outdoors or on pads.. At 6 weeks he will be needing to go every 30 mins really and repetition is key. He should be on 4-5 meals.. My pups aren't fully weaned this young.. Have all his teeth erupted as that makes a massive difference on what type of food to feed. Congrats on your pup

Momma dog got eclamsia, so pups were weaned early. He has good teeth. My vet is monitoring him closely and thought he looked great! I have him going out to the yard 4X a day and using his potty pads inbetween. I try to feed meals 5-10 minutes before the yard outings, then offer a little water inbetween. I've been giving him goat milk/puppy milk replacement too. Do you think that's okay? He wasn't showing interest in plain water and I wanted to make sure he didn't get dehydrated. My main concern is that he is pee/pooing in his kennel during downtimes and then sleeping directly in the filth. He's not left in the kennel more than an hour at a time and is walked or allowed to use the potty pad first.
