Are okay for starting out?? I want to get Louie on raw asap as his breath stinks and I can see little bits of tartar starting to build up grrrr Now which cuts of chicken do I buy for the bone content? I will be buying them from Tesco. I was going to buy some chicken fillets for the boneless portion, but what so I use for the bone-in bit? Wings? Or do I buy thighs or drumsticks and portion them up? My pooch NEEDS raw and fast! To the point i'm contemplating not even finishing the rest of the Orijen.....

If you can get those little cornish hens and chop them up into like 8 chunks (I've never been able to, hubby has to), those chunks are a good sized meal for your average chi, and have a good amount of bone.
To start, I'd start w/ wings and with drummettes though. I am sure Louie can handle it, but if he has issue w/ the bone, smash it all in a bag w/ a hammer, I have to do that for Leah.

If you're getting them from Tesco go for the pack of chicken wings for £2. I would say just start him out and see how he goes. With my lot, I found they needed more bone. If I gave them a thigh, it wasn't enough bone for them and they would get loose stools. If you go for the drumsticks, just watch the knobbly end bit, I had a choking situation with Gambit because he wasn't chewing it properly (he is overshot aswell) so I started cutting the end bits off. Kiki did fine on it though

I don't think we can get cornish hens over here in the UK? Maybe someone can clear that up for me. I'll start with wings/drumsticks and breast meat then Should his first meal be a bone-in meal or a meat meal? Or Bone-in one meal and just meat the next meal? He gets fed twice a day

Go for the £2 economy wings in tesco you get a 15 per pack they are very bone heavy but he will need that first of all you can try thighs and legs mine do fine on them But I don't feed the knobbly end bit either but the rest is fine took me a while to cut daisys bone content back!

Bone-in. He will have loose stools otherwise. Cornish hens, I think we can get them over here but it was so difficult trying to find them over here and I don't think they'd be cheap either Breast meat will be too expensive, you should get thighs instead. I just meant for your bone content, I wouldn't bother with thighs until you know for sure how his stomach will handle it but he might not need a lot. Just keep an eye on his stools and let that be your guide.

I didn't think breasts were too expensive? lol No wait fillets? Are breast and fillets the same thing? lol
Thanks guys, will start with wings and see how he does. I'm itching to get him on meat, I just dunno what to do with the spare Orijen!
I probably have about 2kg left and seems a shame to waste it :S
