We have two 10 foot windows in our living room that birds are always flying into Last summer we couldnt get Miley to come inside one evening, we went out with a flashlight and found her devouring a bird, she had hollowed out all its insides. It was so horrible, I didnt want to touch her for days. I called our vet and asked if she needed to come in for any special shots or wormers and they said no, but you may want to call just to be safe.

They are such nasty little creatures sometimes lol. I wonder what happened to the rest of the bird, I wonder if my dogs ate it and I didn't know b'c they sure like to hang out down in that corner of the yard. Ewwww.

We used to have an outside cat (before we knew better) and she'd bring home mice and birds to eat on our deck and she always ate the head FIRST! So there was just little bodies laying around headless! Yucko!

We were thinking of getting a few to control mice too but basically you buy feral kittens and give them a heated house and food as babies...

Ewww, that is icky! I'd probably not do anything out of the ordinary if they're getting their heartgard soon. Stick nasty!
We have 2 outside cats. They weren't always outside cats. After they were spayed & we moved here (we used to live on a busy road) they were itching to go outside & the mice & chipmunks were driving us mad so we let them out since we live on a very quiet road. Since they've gone outside we haven't had an issue with either. They come in to eat & go back out. In the winter they spend a bit more time inside but not a lot. They have their hiding spots outside for the snowy times and can come in whenever but even still they prefer outside. LOL They've actually outlived the outdoor cat life span. They're both 8yo & healthy as kittens. Shoe (we didn't name her LOL) will disappear for a few days at a time but has come back each time so far. Once she was gone for a week & I was sure something happened to her but the morning after I decided she was gone forever, she showed back up. LOL

If its a "working cat", kept to control mice on a farm or large piece of land I think theres nothing wrong with an outside cat. When the cat is a pet though, it has become "frowned upon" to let them outside because of the probability that theyll be killed by a car or some other animal, and I think its generally seen as rude to neighbors to have your cat out wandering around, which would also be more of a city problem. I think theres also some sort of argument that theyre killing birds, but that might just be because I read Jonathon Franzens "Freedom" not that long ago and there was a character who was an environmentalist and freaked out at some neighbors with an outdoor cat and lectured them about a declining songbird population. Anyone read it? His books are really good. Haha this became a ramble, its finals week here and Im writing another 10 page paper on no sleep, I might not be coherent anymore!

Hmm, I guess it depends on where you live. I have some very close neighbors but thankfully they're either family or friends of the family for a long time. Several of us have outside kitties. There has been "neighborhood cats" here since I was a kid & I guess it's just an accepted thing in our neighborhood. They're all spayed/neutered so it's not like we're over run or they're multiplying or anything....
