Some of you may remember that I've mentioned my old vet who used to try and persuade his clients to feed their pets raw about 15 years ago, and he used to tell me to encourage my cats to catch prey and scoff the lot. His veterinary surgery had a large freezer with premade raw mixes, instead of the bags of Hill's that most vet's seem to have. I've just noticed on his website that he recommends Darlings and thought some of you might be interested: www.darlingsrealdogfood.com/Also, here's a link to the page on his own website where he talks about the benefits of eating raw: www.vethomeopath.co.uk/phdi/p1.nsf/supppages/3413?opendocument&part=4

I looked at them and two things put me off one they add veg and two they sell biscuits. Biscuits to me personally defeat the idea of Raw feeding. The veg I can deal with altho it's not for me as I used a premade with veg in once and they started to poo more than once a day?
Love his website too!! But (wow I'm bring negative today lol) whenever I've fed whole prey (all of twice lol) the intestines have been shaken out!
I wish my vet was a little more homeopathic he is fab but not quite on my wave length YET!!

That Darlings does look a good site and I love the video where one of the founders is talking about processed foods etc. I think for people who are less confident with doing it on their own, its a great idea as you can tell them about your dog and they'll give you a quote for what you need. Personally, I won't be ordering as the veggies put me off lol Thank you for posting though

Yeah I'm really sad that Geoff only does the homoeopathy now, and doesn't have a traditional full surgery anymore. So I have to use another vet for wounds, vaccinations etc. Geoff will actually do homoeopathic vaccinations (nosodes) but insurance companies and Kennel Club etc. don't recognize them. The food... I admit I did wonder about the biscuit thing too, as I can't think of anything in the wild that really equates to biscuit! The veg thing I can accept, 'cos apart from stomach contents of rabbits etc. I know they do like to eat a bit of vegetation here and there. Harry loves eating leaves... including dead ones! (Oak are his favourite and he brought a six inch one indoors the other day!) And he adores carrots and lettuce too (not that he gets either of those very often!) I know what you mean about the soft poo... when he's not eating raw, I give Harry Ziwipeak (BIG hard poo) and Orijen which gives him softer poo. But just for a change I thought I'd try him with a trial size Acana... OMG... with the amount of veg in that, SOFT ain't the word... and loads of it... ewww!

Your old vet sounds amazing though! Wish more vets could be like that

Just watched the Darlings video on youtube of how they prepare their food and recognised it! lol I was looking in to this company last year when I was gettingr eady to switch to raw but decided against it because they used vegetables. Gambit eats grass and while I don't think veggies harm them, I do agree they cause larger and more frequent stools. I think that while they might eat stomach contents of their kill, the percentage in Darlings is 33-35% and there is no way thats how much they'd be eating in the wild.

I emailed Darlings for a quote and it worked out at like £40 per month!
Easier it might be, but just not cost effective at all! I also didn't agree with all the veggies in it, and they said they have a working dog option with no veg, but that is more expensive.
I think ive decided to go with ziwi, both tin & dehydrated with 1/2 chicken wings for his dental health and the odd Natures Menu banguet nuggets for variety. Which is gonna cost me under £25 a month. So alot cheaper than Darlings!
