Don't your vets understand how vaccines work? 1 shot after 20 weeks will provide GUARANTEED immunity as long as the dog's body is capable of creating it. You can't "boost" anything...ugh vets are so stupid.

It's rediculus how they say they boosters have to be yearly- like the day it ticks over all your antigen cells will automatically dissapear- as if all virus' have some sort of concept of human time. It's moronic.

Ok I'm not 100% but I'm guessing that a few of them probably do understand that but just try to scaremonger to get people to pay up? lol

God it's sad that I just don't trust my vets at all. Sigh. Should have become one myself!
I think I will get a vac to "boost" then try and get the yearly Lepto, as we have the bloody fox problem here too. - but if my vet won't let me have the "booster" aka single dose, I'm just gonna ask for the two shot puppy ones- and just not go back for the seccond injection.

I get stalked by my vet as soon as the 1 year mark comes up. Urgh!
It is sad, and I can't trust mine either. Last year I woke up, took the dogs out and noticed Kiki's tail was just hanging from the back of her, it just looked so wrong. I could touch it without her crying though. Still, I panicked, phoned my vet and got an appointment and spoke to her breeder to find out if she ever had heard of anything like it. I was in tears, I was so scared she'd broken it and a million things were running through my mind.
Her breeder was going the her own vets that day and her appointment was before mine so she asked her vet about it and he said that my vet should give kiki an anti inflammatory and see how it goes. He said she would be in a lot of pain if it was broken. Kiki clearly wasn't because she was walking around and playing as usual!
In the afternoon, I get to the vets and he's umming and ahhing and he says "well its not broken... Are you insured?" Me: "Yes" Him: "okay well bring her in for an xray tomorrow morning, no food after 9pm blah blah blah". He gave her an anti inflammatory jab so that visit cost about £60. I asked how much the x ray was and I believe he said about £300 which I'd have to pay for and then could claim back from the insurance. Ummm, what?! For one thing, I didn't like the idea that he was so eager to put her under for an xray which really should take less than a minute, what about a mild sedation? I HATE the idea of putting such a small dog under anesthetic for any reason other that something absolutely vital. Secondly, if he was so sure it wasn't broken, why not wait and see what the jab does?
Sure enough, next morning it had already improved. I phoned up and cancelled but kept a close eye on her. Within a week or so she was fine!
Its not the money, it never is with my dogs. I love them and would do anything for them. I go without so my dogs can have. I don't drink or smoke or go out to clubs or buy nice shoes for myself lol so my "luxury" is my dogs. I just don't want a vet to try and take advantage of that!
Now I do not trust him. He is a very capable man, he handled Chaos hernia op/neuter (his testicles hadn't descended) at 13 weeks brilliantly but I just think whenever I walk in there its mostly about bringing in the money!
