Bella is really good when I grind her nails, I can do her alone, at least her front paws. But Izzie, another story, she won't stop squirming! I can't hold her still enough, so DH has to help.

Hang on! What's all this about grinding their nails with a power grinder? What's wrong with old fashioned clipping? Harry doesn't exactly enjoy it, but he's defo getting more tolerant the more he gets used to it. Am I missing something here?

I do it b'c it gets their nails way shorter and there is less chance of causing them discomfort. Clipping doesn't work for any of mine as they have time to anticipate the clip and they yelp and pull away and ugh...its awful!

Ah, okay, now I get it! Phew for a minute there, I thought I was missing out on 'ground nails' being a new supplement or something, lol! Thanks Kristi

I learned to grind nails years ago from a groomer friend of mine. You wouldn't believe the fits that some dogs pull! Well, maybe some of you would. She would just hold them firmly at the elbow, gently restrained and just sit there until their fit was over. Sometimes they would thrash and scream for what seemed like a long time. Then they'd finally stop and she'd calmly finish the job. NEVER let the dog win. It just reinforces that behavior. Once she was done, they got rewarded and the next time she did their nails, they just sat there. She was a genius in dog behavior/training. Owners couldn't believe it. It was so fun to watch her in action.

Great advice, Tracy! So many people find it disheartening and give up. What the dog has to realise is that its not going to kill them, and really its for their own benefit! Chaos will be fine until I put the grinder on his nail, then he'll scream and thrash, when I pull it away, he's fine! LOL! Now I just get my mum to hold him and although he still does it, its a lot easier to do with my mum holding. *waiting for Sarah to call me a liar LOL* I wish I knew about grinding the nails sooner. I used to dread doing Kiki and Gambit's with clippers. It also made me feel anxious
