Ok so when i first joined here and i was posting pics of Jake someone mentioned something about his growth plates...when i took him to the vets for his jabs a few weeks ago i asked about his legs as some times he does stand with them facing outwards and they have said he has Carpal Valgus. The vet was a abit useless so when i went back today i got a different vet that explained it more. I asked if it was hereditery he said possibly but it can also be caused by other things such as a knock to his leg. The first vet said it was just in the 1 leg but the 2nd vet just mentioned that it was worse in 1 leg than the other. His parents legs are fine and thankfully so are the puppies, i was never intending on studding him out anyway so thats fine but as it is a visable problem will this mean i can't show him? When the first vet had said about it he said i may still be able to show him but i thought whats the point hence saying about neutering him. I can't find much info about it on the net so if anyone knows anything about Carpal Valgus that would be great They said they can correct it by breaking his leg but as its not causing him any problems i dont think its neccesary

Google is pretty useless, cant find much info on it I dont think it would be bad of me to show him as i wont use him as stud anyway, what do you think? Im not too serious about it just thought it would be fun to give it a go all the girls at work show their dogs and i feel pretty left out. Are there normally dogs in the ring with visable medical conditions?

Ok very interesting
It says if it's on both legs it tends to Be hereditary and can cause arthritis and dogs should be put on glucosamine and chrondroitin supplements to help Slow down arthritis especially as he's a young dog
If it's on one leg it can be either hereditary or dietary :s
Apparently structural faults etc can skip a generation so it maybe that the pups don't have it I would tell his breeder though

Um I'm relatively new to showing only done a few shows.. Personally if you're going to I would only do open or companion shows. Champ shows personally I would steer away from Especially with the whole Pedigree dogs exposed thing!! I've seen one dog with a problem there's prob more but a long of bad comments were passed (I'm still talking about it)! Personally if it was my dog I wouldn't I'd keep him pet only if you want to show then start again maybe but that's just what I would do?

I have seen one of jakes litter mates grown up and his feet seem fine so i think it may be down to either his diet or if he had knocked it, he was on frolic food when i got him from the breeder and i've always had him on burns mini bites till recently i switched him to acana. Yeh im happy to just stick to the companian shows and open shows, we are going to a companian one on sunday. I may just end up getting him neutered anyway though. Think i should put him on glucosamine now then?

I would still tell the breeder.
Your foods aren't bad I've never heard of frolic!! I would think if it was dietary it would be more likely to be in the whole litter.
Yes definitely start now arthritis is painful Give him double the dose for 6 weeks then down to the normal dose hopefully it will help him
Good luck at the weekend

Yeh i'm draughting an email to her now, dont want to pee her off as get on well with her but if it is genetic she needs to be aware anyway I'd never heard of frolic either lol. I dont know if over exercising could cause it too, he got walked a bit too far sometimes when he was still growing, he also jumps up and down like a kangaroo all the time he always has done so could be something like that that caused it theres not alot of info i can find Will order him some now, i give him evening primrose capsules & salmon oil too everyday i dont know whether to cut something back as dont want to give him too much Thank you, going to enter him in the waggiest tail because even if he isn't pedigree perfect hes still a happy dog lol
